From what I've read, our defense is back!

My only real concern for defense next year is our DL depth. I still haven't heard much about the second string guys development.

Our center situation does not look good without T-Bob, who only took a handful of snaps in a non-contact jersey.

Russell Shepard has also apparently grown a good bit as a QB since getting on campus. He's, of course, very dangerous as a runner but getting better as a passer as well. On the other QB's, Jefferson looked the best, but still not great. Lee threw 2 interceptions, one of which was a pick 6. He was apparently doing a better job with his reads than the others though.

I'm willing to give our defense the credit for the INTs.. they were having a great day.

I think the centers will come around.. I heard most of the problems were in the exchange.. which should not be difficult to fix.

No, and the coaches have ruled Hitt out at Center - he's staying at Guard.

I heard Lee threw 3 picks.

2 back to back throws that Brooks picked off and a pick 6 to Coleman.

    Is this not correct?

I think one of the picks to Brooks was JJ. I might be wrong though. Can't say it enough.. apparently our defense played nasty good. They would have torn anyone up today.

Yep, looked like it to me.

The #1 line looked good, but I see what your concern is. They did rotate the players a lot so everyone got some time. I like what I see from Chavis so far but time will tell.

Agreed. One turnover today was because of a bad snap. This happened at least 4 times, but not so much with the #1 team.

All the QB's struggled with the wind getting under the ball today. They were facing South into a very stiff wind for a lot of the scrimmage.

Shep's passing wasn't great in the scrimmage, but in warm-ups he looked good. He didn't throw a lot, but the ball tended float and wobble a bit when he did. He's something very special when running though. This kid's got it, no matter what they use him for.

Lee and Garrett both looked really good in warm-ups, but when they were running plays they had a couple of problems. I think Lee, in spite of the int's today, looked comfortable. There was a few times I expected him to try to force a throw when he'd either throw it away, or run with it. Garrett looked ok, but he's young. It was he who threw the back-to-back int's to Brooks. Word is though, he has a cannon for an arm.. if he can be accurate with that it will be fun.

September can't get here soon enough.

Defense is usually ahead of the offense. Thanks for the information.:thumb:

:geaux: Besides the problems with the exchange on occasion, how did Lonergan and Blackwell look at center? Did they perform pretty well for the most part? Does it look like either one will be quality backup to T-Bob, assuming he has a succesful rehab on his knee? Can only hope that they (Lonergan & Blackwell) will continue to progress through the Spring & Fall and be ready to go by game #1. And in the meantime pray that T-Bob's rehab is a success. :LSU231:
