Nobody has any passion for Arkansas. It was a rivalry manufactured by the SEC. Our traditional in-state rival is Tulane. Our traditional SEC rival is Ole Miss. Our hot rivalry is with whoever contends with us for a championship, currently Bama.
This is correct This is the bullshit. Arkansas is NOT a rival for us. b_leblanc is correct when he says only the pigs care about it.
BB14, just because they have played us well for 5 years does not make a rival. I don't know how old you are, but anyone over 35 will tell you that what I, Red, and b-leblanc have said is true. Red nailed it in it's entirety. The networks made up this "rivalry" with Arkansas and created the boot because they needed a game the day after Thanksgiving. The golden boot has only been around since 1995. None of the older fans really care. Had the SEC not expanded, the game may have become more of a rivalry, but a rivalry takes time to develop. Arkansas has only been a member of the SEC since 1992. That's very young compared to LSU/Ole Miss or LSU/Tulane. Personally, the game I look forward to most for the past 6 or 7 years is LSU/Bama.
That's the primary reason Arkansas fans are upset right now. That Thanksgiving game was their national spotlight game. Sure, they've had a few CBS afternoon games that were national broadcasts. But, they didn't have that one game with no competition among college football viewers.
Exactly. IIRC, CBS made the boot to somehow give significance to this game. The game has always meant more to Ar-Kansas than it does to us. Granted, they have played us well the last few years, but a few years does not a rivalry make.
I don't know if it was CBS's brainchild. I do recall I'd never heard of it until the last part of Stallings era. So, based on that, maybe 1995 or 1996 was the first year it was introduced? ---------------- Edit: LSUsports.net
lsu doesnt have one. because OM sucks, the rival floats. been between auburn, bama and uf for the last 15 yrs. although it is strange that arky has a good record against lsu.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/george_schroeder/11/24/lsu-arkansas/index.html From the fourth paragraph... "LSU-Arkansas won't make anyone's list of college football's great rivalries. Depending on your definition, it might not even be a rivalry..."
It's been awhile since I've looked at the all-time record, but if memory serves me correctly Arkansas has only won around 33% of the time.
