I know the mantle of win out and we will be fine, however I have a question about our chances. How is it that USC is ranked 5# after losing to an unranked conference foe, that lost the following week. Im not a BCS expert, so someone explain this to me. Florida is in the same situation, however the SEC is alot tougher than the Pac-1?. I dont understand the logic with USC, yes they beat Ohio St, but the rest of the schedule is bad. LSU loses to 10# ranked Florida, if we win the SEC championship game and there in 1 unbeaten team, say Texas or Penn St. What are our chances?
This was talked about last night on the BCS show on either Fox or ESPN, can't remember which. But according to one of these panels Penn St's "national championship game" is this week against Ohio St. If they lose they're out. Because they don't play a conference championship and this is really the only BIG game they play all year (sorry Michigan folks this year you're considered a bottom feeder). As for as USC goes it seems to me you have split opinions on this one. I've heard that if USC continues to win out they will be (no questions asked) in the title game. Then I've heard that the computers will keep USC out of it because of who they haven't played. this came from Herby on ESPN. If LSU is sitting there at 12-1 and is the SEC champ there would have to be two undefeated teams to keep you out. But that's just my .02.
If we win out and beat UF in a rematch at the SECCG, then I think we have a good shot... that being said, the best I can really say is lets take care of business week in and week out. Let the media pundits worry about it. With the hype behind some of the teams left on our schedule, I don't think we would be denied if we take care of what we can control.
If we win the SEC I like our chances given we are defending champs. I think voters would give us the opportunity to defend it.
USC also had the benefit of an early loss. Historically, early losses don't hurt you as much in the later polls. Realistically, it would come down to what the panel of voters on the Harris Poll decided. They made the correct decision last year, and I believe they would make it again this year. Of course, there are 3 parts to the BCS, and the other 2 parts (computer poll average and coaches poll) would have to be close for the Harris Poll to be the deciding factor.
make it to the SEC championship, we're in the sugar. i think the winner of that game goes on to the national title game vs. the winner of the big 12 championship game
as far as usc goes, they currently are around 10 in the computers. espn stated that based on remaining schedule that ranking will get much worse.
If I'm not mistaken, USCw still has to avenge their loss last year to the mighty Stanford:wave::wave: that's going to do wonders for their computer rankings
Not if there are 2 undefeated team. If everyone else also has one loss, I agree; especially if we beat FU in the SECCG and avenge our only loss.
