I didn't think Hatch was bad. Just couldn't take a clocking. 1 good SEC hit and dude is back to being really really white. Lee didn't have a chance.
Look around the SEC. Outside of the rare occurrences of Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel, what other freshmen and sophomores out there do you see lighting the world on fire? Here's a quick list of QBs and their statistics in their first, full year starting at QB in the SEC: CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA TD INT RAT 156 267 1940 58.4 7.27 10 7 126.6 (Dak Prescott) 149 277 2165 53.8 7.82 13 6 130.6 (Brandon Harris) 202 339 2499 59.6 7.37 14 4 132.8 (Brodie Croyle) 216 379 2707 57.0 7.14 17 10 126.5 (JP Wilson) 225 392 2718 57.4 6.93 14 9 122.8 (Patrick Towles) 146 253 1644 57.7 6.50 6 6 115.4 (Andre Woodson) 128 258 1552 49.6 6.02 13 10 109.0 (Brandon Allen) 239 432 2862 55.3 6.63 17 10 119.3 (Stephen Garcia) 188 311 2443 60.5 7.86 15 9 136.6 (Jamarcus Russell) 143 269 1873 53.2 6.96 13 16 115.7 (Jarrett Lee) 182 296 2166 61.5 7.32 17 7 137.2 (Jordan Jefferson) 94 179 1050 52.5 5.87 2 7 97.7 (Kodi Burns) 135 256 1749 52.7 6.83 7 13 109.0 (Matt Stafford) My first thought when looking at that list is "How in the hell is JJ at the top, statistically?" My second thought it that Harris is right about where you'd expect a young QB, cutting his teeth in the SEC should be. There is room for improvement, but he's far from a lost cause. We haven't seen QB development at LSU since Jamarcus Russell. In that time span, we have seen two guys who enjoyed success at a historically early level in Tebow and Manziel. It's not been seen before or since. It's unreasonable to expect that kind of success from a QB that young, regardless of what school you're talking about. I think we've just forgotten what developing a QB looks like...
Forgot? No thats why I didnt list him. I listed all the terrible qbs/busts over the last 6 years. Lee was screwed.
Name the really great QB's in LSU history, then name the really good ones. Both lists will be very very short. Miles has been the greatest recruiter in LSU history by far, but his recruitment and development of QB's is near the bottom of a very mediocre list. There is no debate that it has without a doubt been his Achilles Heel.
