Alabama football historians claim any perceived legitmate poll as being able to claim a NC. The problem with that is that many of those polls were not considered legitimate by objective sources. The NCAA has never accepted ANY poll's results as to declaring a national champion. The BCS was created so that a NC would be won on the field. Any NC won before the BCSNCG is subjective, especially when you consider that these mythical NC's were often split between several teams. I personally care much more about the modern era of football, where BCSNC's are won on the field of play. They are objective. The AP can give their trophy to whomever they please, it is a free country. They can even call it a NC trophy if they want to, but that does not make it so. So in the end, I agree with the poster above, it is a lovely parting gift.
I was, however, a little incredulous when "the barn" openly embraced that NC title sponsored by Golf Digest.
I am taking this thread back... It was a terrible hijacking to attempt to recover from. In another thread you will see which team is number 2 in winning percentage during the CLM era of football behind LSU. Hint: it is VA TECH! Yet another reason to play them in the BCSNCG.
sugarlsu, I am going to respectfully disagree. The NCAA still does not crown a National Champion, even the BCS champion. The BCS was established to try and match the two best teams in college football. It's a good notion, even though there may be flaws in their methodology. But, after that final game, you still just end up with a coach's poll, a writer's poll, the Harris poll, and several computer polls. A real NCAA football champion still is not crowned. So why should more credence be given to the coach's poll instead of the writer's poll (traditionally, the two most respected polls since their inception)?
Because everyone, at least the AQ conferences, agreed that this was the way to establish a national championship.
If it plays out so that both LSU & Virginia Tech win out, then I think you're right. Nobody really wants see a rematch of LSU vs Bama (except Bama fans).
All I have to say is, is it Friday yet? I simply can't wait to see LSU beat Arkansas and then to watch the Iron Bowl. Just maybe the way this year is going Auburn pulls the upset! lol
