Remember who UNC is playing in the 1st round -- Radford from the Big South Conference. That said, UNC can sure put up some points... :geauxtige
The biggest thing about the upcoming game to keep in mind is:...................................WE AIN'T FRIGGING RADFORD! I went to Rupp a few weeks ago and watched LSU play. I have ONE word.....Thornton. He CAN take over a game. IF.....LSU gets this win, we'll be hard to beat after that. View attachment 11813
UNC hasn't played a great defensive team like us in a while and they don't do it often. They will not put on a scoring exhibition but they will get easy paint points. It's frightening to think who will guard Psycho T consistently for the whole game...Hopefully we hold them to a low enough point total that our offense can just do their job and win.
I'm happy LSU won today but do they really have a chance against UNC? I don't give us much of a chance to win this game but I would also say that if we beat UNC LSU should go deep into this tournament!
Right now I'd give LSU a 1 in 5 chance of winning. On paper LSU simply doesn't match up talent-wise with UNC. Not many teams do. LSU will give up points in the paint, but that only becomes a problem if the team goes cold shooting. People rightly point out the big man problems LSU has on D, but those losses look worse because they were accompanied by long cold streaks. Everyone will have to step up their offensive game and they know it. Having said that, there's a lot to be said about the psychological factor. LSU has absolutely nothing left to lose and no expectations. UNC is a NC favorite and has everything to lose. Plus, you absolutely cannot overlook the FF experience of some of the seniors. This gives LSU a lot of poise in this situation. If LSU can rattle UNC early there could be an upset in the making.
I like this post. Realistically LSU has to play its best and get some help from UNC, but that's why they play the game. And, I actually like the fact that UNC had a cupcake first game. LSU has nothing to lose and UNC may come in overconfident. Let's also remember that LSU has Quinton Thornton, and at 6'9" and 240lb, he will play more than he did against Butler b/c of the matchup. All he has to do is keep TH off the offensive glass (i.e., no cheapie points), and slow him down a little. Then we need MT to continue his shooting, Tas to have a solid game and we'll need Bo and Temple to pitch in. LSU's sticky d could frustrate UNC, although I think the key will need to be LSU being hot from the field and being able to keep the game close late. If I'm CTJ, it's really a key of motivation and believing. The LSU Tigers have to believe they can win, and play no holds barred and not let up. This could be the last game of their college years, and I believe the key will be the Thorntons playing the best games of their lives, and somebody else stepping up, much like CJ stepped up in this game. I see perhaps that being Bo Spencer scoring the ball.
have to do like you said and keep hansborough respectable. gotta keep ellington down. cant let two go off. gotta slow things down, even though the tigers like to push it a bit. unc will kill them if it happens. lawson cant be more than 75% healthy. tigers have a chance if mitchell and thornton total 60
Along the current line of discussion is this from espn.com. Need an insider description to read (I don't): Insider Intel: Thornton is Heel-wrecker
