Wait....last night everyone said Mahomes couldn't do that for LSU because Cam/Les would ruin him. Which is it? I made the argument last night that he was making athletic plays....how many times did he escape from pressure, roll to the outside, then throw back into the middle of the field for a big gain? Over and over again, but every "expert" will tell you a QB should never, never do that.
True but a bunch of those plays happened in long yardage 3rd and 4th down do or die situations when Tech was behind by several scores. You don't do that like when Favre did it in the NFC title game vs. the Saints in FG range in a tie game with a SB berth on the line. You can/probably should do it when the other option (punting and/or losing) is worse. He would've helped us in the Bama game for sure where the QB was under siege all night. See Johnny Foosball vs. Bama circa 2012.
So true. Seems like there are so many qb's out there that are at least adequate. But I enjoyed the win last night.
I enjoyed the win last night, but there were some times where I felt we weren't running the ball enough. I realize that is not the popular opinion, but for a large chunk of the game, I didn't think we took enough advantage of TT's bad run defense. I liked how aggressively our defense played. For so long under Chavis, we never pressured a QB, and that was tiresome, so even though Mahomes got out of bad situations a few times, it was still fun to watch him running for his life. This is not to mention that a couple of times, I thought he'd crossed the LOS before throwing (especially on one 3rd down in the 1st quarter), and another time, they had an offensive lineman downfield and did not get it called (we did, of course.) After the Ole Miss game, I was ready for Miles to go if that was what the board was going to do. It actually didn't feel "right," but I was okay with trying someone new. Now that we know Miles is here, I will still support him because I want my TEAM to be successful, so I want Miles to be successful. Reading this thread back, some of you do seem to be letting your disdain for Miles get in the way of any enjoyment of LSU football. Life is short; don't stress yourselves out so much about things over which you have no control (like Miles still being the coach of the LSU Tigers.)
Curious......I've read multiple times that Saban runs his running backs into the ground, and by the time they're ready for the NFL, they're used up. What's the difference in how Miles runs his system, and how we want (in example) LF to run the ball most of the time?
NFL personnel have said that Saban does, in fact, run his players into the ground before they reach the NFL. Traditionally, LSU has had a real running back by committee approach, but now, not so much with LF. But he is a once-in-a-generation talent, so obviously, we are running him more than we have run other backs. Even so, I don't think he looked run into the ground last night.
