So, I was totally oblivious to the date so I did not even think to watch the game. It sucks being old, infirm, and off schedule! But I saw the whole thing this morning on replay. I knew the score and so I watched without emotion. I have not read the entire thread, but have the following observations. 1) Penalties. They kill us. Frequently. This has got to stop to get in a New Year's Eve game. Ever. 2) Harris: He had some good (great) throws, especially in second half, but also threw the ball terribly in many cases. The announcers hammered the fact that LSU needs a QB. I believe they are correct. 3) Play calling: Was dumbfounded by some of the third down calls. Again, the announcers were all over this, too! 4) The read with Harris running looked great, did not see it many times. On reflection, that ought to be a "gimme" with 8+ frequently keying on #7. 5) Our DB's seem to be pretty binary. Either 1's or 0's. Strange. Thrilled with the "going away" win, and especially the final goal line stand. Geaux Tigers!
A bowl win is always awesome! Leaves me with a good feeling all the way until September. With the Saints and Tigers the past 2 seasons, I have learned to savor every win. A bowl win is extra special. I had a blast watching the Tigers dominate (for the most part) a pretty damn good offense. I agree with the goal line stand at the end. Great way to end the season with a W!
Of course it was Tech. We knew it was going to be Tech. We did what we should have done against Tech. And yes, I get that it really doesn't give us an indication of where the offense is going to be next year. But just how much change was really possible last night? Did you expect a whole new offense? You talk about "integrity to admit it"....OK, be honest; how many passes did you expect to see after BH threw an interception in the 3rd? My honest answer to that is; I thought the game was over. I thought Cam would stubbornly plow LF into 10-man fronts for the rest of the night out of fear that Harris would throw it away again. But if anything, Cam got more aggressive in his play calling. That was certainly different. Cam being on the sideline instead of the box was different, and it seems to have had a positive impact. So I'd say, what could have been different last night was different. It's the same playbook and the same players, but the approach was more aggressive. Still a long way to go.
No of course not. I did expect them to take advantage of what was there and they did. Maybe he threw it more because he knew they could always plow the run but that is more credit than I'm willing to extend to them.
I actually did enjoy the game and there were plenty of bright spots. During the game I live and die with each snap (also had too much to drink), so please pardon if I don't always have immediate perspective. But even the morning after some criticisms hold true - our offense still needs a lot of work and benefitted from a bad TxTech D.
I'm surprised there isn't more positive talk about the defense. DBs got beat a couple times, but no busted coverages. Defensive line was in the backfield all night and the LBs had a good game. Tackling was pretty good too. If TT had a slightly lesser QB, they may not have scored double digits.
And the radio guys here (big 12 honks) were bashing Harris pretty hard, said if Maholmes was on LSU they are NC caliber. Hard to call them crazy
