NCAA College Football BCS Bowl Projections Week 13 - ESPN College Football Bowls - CBSSports.com All have us playing Penn St. in the Capital One Bowl For those wondering, we played and lost to Penn St. in the 1974 Orange Bowl, 16-9
I believe it's a male lion that was small, couldn't hunt, and all its pride left to go to a real lion, so, lost in the wilderness he came across a school in Pennsylvania, too small to threaten and too tired to eat. As they lacked creativity to come up with a good name, they called themselves after their POS lion, and the Nittany Lions were born!
I remember that game too. My brother got a couple of graduate degrees from Penn State, and he is a die hard. I would love for the Tigers to kick the Lions (and Joe Pas) read end. I have not watched them this year at all, but I know they took more defeats than I thought they would. Got to beat those sukkas. hwr
Since Iowa defeated the Nittany Lions in Happy Valley they likely have the BCS edge. Heres how we match up statistically with Penn St. Penn St TDS YPG Passing Rushing Offense 44 412.5 238.9 173.6 Defense 14 277.1 183.2 93.9 LSU Offense 32 309.7 180.1 129.6 Defense 18 326.6 192.4 134.2 We have no common opponents but interestingly enough the team we played with stats most resembling Penn St was Alabama. Alabama Offense 40 407.4 194.5 212.9 Defense 13 234.1 156.8 77.3 Both Bama and Penn St are dominant defensively against the run . Penn St not nearly as good as Bama against the pass. JJ and Lee combined to go 14/27 for 158 yds vs Bama. LSU rushed for 95 yds on 29 carries vs Bama. Only 3.3 yds per carry. In Ohio St's win over Penn St they rushed 49 times for 229 yds. In the air they were 8/17 for 125yds. They did not turn the ball over at all. Hence the key to victory is ball control. A large dose of Ridley,Shepherd and Trindon. We have to do better than 3.3 yds per carry.
As crappy as a season we have had offensively, I like our chances against any team in the Big 10. We've played and had chances to win against Florida and Alabama. My gut feeling is that it will be the same old song and dance for LSU come bowl time....rejuvenated, healthy, and ready to play.
