So, the men's hoops team wraps up their trip to the Charleston Classic by facing GA Tech (3-1) in the "5th place" consolation game today at 1:30 p.m. today. Tigers to face Ga. Tech for fifth | LSU | The Advocate — Baton Rouge, LA First, the Tigers get to hopefully continue the momentum developed in the last game with Hickey and Hamilton stepping up. While GA Tech has historically enjoyed a strong "ACC brand" and position, this has been a program under transition the last few years. Under new 1st year coach Brian Gregory (who just recently joined from Dayton and is a Tom Izzo disciple), GA Tech has in some ways gotten away from the teams of Gregory's predecessor, Paul Hewittt, who was known for stellar recruiting classes and talented teams, but underachieving with them. This GA Tech team is picked for the bottom half of the ACC, but sports some interesting talent and holdover from Hewitt's era. Mfon Udofia, a well-regarded 6-2 Jr point guard, will be an interesting match up for Anthony Hickey. And, GA Tech does have some height on the front line, active bodies in Kammeon Holsey (6-8") and Daniel Miller (6'11"). They also have a Jr. guard with a famous name, Glen Rice Jr, who is a streaky SG for them. GA Tech beat oft-glorified coach Shaka Smart and VCU in their last outing, so this should be a close game and an important one for the Tigers' resume building. It would be nice to score a win against another BCS school from the ACC. This will also be an interesting game of wits as well. With two teams relatively even in terms of balanced attack and personnel, the question will be which coach gets the better of the other, in terms of preparation and game plan. LSU experimented some with zone defense in the second half against WKU and will that be something we see today? In many ways, I've liked this field at the Charleston Classic. The games have been competitive and highlighted some interesting schools from different places. "Everybody thinks losses are always a bad thing. But it’s what you take from them and work on." - Anthony Hickey.
I wish this game was on TV here. I will check ESPNU, maybe I'll get some benefit from being in ACC land.
I think it's being shown online on Espn3. Espn U is only showing the "3rd place" game and the championship this afternoon.
