Like I said, all things being equal, Butch may be a fine coach and LSU would be lucky to have him as head coach. But the bad luck for Butch is that timing is everything in life and it just so happens that he was the assistant to a grade A a$$ the last 11 years who got fired. LSU's hands are virtually tied and there would be not one more fan in those seats next year if Butch was hired.

If Butch wasn't happy with the way Brady did things, then he should have left and gone someplace where he felt like the coach was doing things the right way. IMO, you can't criticize Brady the last 11 years without applying those same critiques to Butch.

Timing is wrong for Butch and right for Grant if he gets the job. If I had my way, I'd be on a flight right now to L.A. to drop $ 2 mil on Tim Floyd. But since LSU probably won't drop $2 mil on a coach they'll have to go get Grant or Drew which is a success crapshoot.

Oh I get it friend. You have to understand that timing is life and Butch's timing is wrong. He should have left 5 years ago to be a head coach at a smaller school and then maybe, now that Brady has been fired, he could come be head coach. But he didn't do that. Now he's left as the interim head coach and former assistant to an a$$ who got fired and he'll have to watch as LSU hires a head coach with no connection to the last 11 years.

    I get it....simple.

(And I'll tell you what I did see Grant do.....he was assistant and recruiter at a school that won back to back NCAA titles. Did Butch do that?)

He loved the Jeff Lebo hire at Auburn and he'll cry on TV when Lebo gets fired next year. He loves every hire and hates every firing. I really don't understand your point with Dick Vitale. It's kinda silly actually.

    Case closed.

So you don't think Butch staying had anything to do with the players he had a huge hand in recruiting and developing and for a chance to coach his nephew for 4 years? You might make it sound simple but that is not the full resume.

Sure it did. I'm sure it would have been hard to leave. But he couldn't have thought that he was going to get the LSU job if Brady ever got fired. That's unreasonable.

Grant left Florida because he wanted to be a head coach at a big time school someday. Grant or Butch couldn't expect to get the head job at an SEC school or in any big conference by just being an assistant at LSU. LSU or Bama or Auburn aren't hiring assistants.......they want experience as a head coach somewhere.....just like Brady was a head coach and so was Gottfried.

IMO Butch should get a courtesy interview and then move on. Not because he isn't as good as Grant or Drew or Lebo but because he doesn't have the experience to be a head coach in the SEC or PAC-10 or any big conference. And because you can't fire the coach and hire an assistant from his staff. It just doesn't make sense. That doesn't add any excitement to an otherwise downtrodden program.

    I know it's true.

I've had players (who will remain unnamed) tell me it's true. Why the high number of transfers? 25-30 in 11 years. Because they got frustrated the guy didn't bolt like thye had hoped.

Dammit! The hatred for Brady here runs deep. Did everybody get the message, Brady was fired, lol. Butch Pierre never had a chance at the coaches job and he knew it. It's time he moved on and took over at another institution as head coach. Pierre deserves a head coach slot somewhere. For now, it won't be in the SEC. If he can continue to coach like he did here, one day he could very well find himself back in the SEC.

    Thanks for the memories, Butch!:geaux:
