I was actually at the game and it was one of the best home games ive seen in a while. not the best LSU performance, but suspense wise. When Arkansas missed the field goal the whole stadium went nuts. Definitely a great game to have gone to.
Just to play a little bit of contrarian, you know that there are different ways to break down the zone, and you can also be effective against the zone with good movement and passing into and out of/around the zone. Having the guy flash to the key and cutting to the hoop with passing are perfectly acceptable as well. You could tell Trent and Bass were trying to get folks into the FT area. I think the important thing is are the kids instinctively moving to the right spots and then, when they work for open shots, are they hitting them, and if not, are they finding ways to get to the basket and draw fouls. I think Bass can penetrate the zone, I think the tricky thing for him is, as you say, he's got to hit a couple of jump shots to loosen the zone for him, or he's got to be able to hit the open man cutting or open on the wing.
yes i get it. i wasnt clear. my point was that the zone D was a good reason for the guards not to be penetrating.
