I had a number in mind...and a score. But then I watched BHelm's video, and I have changed my mind. One thing I KNOW about LSU is that they will knock the crap out of some people. I didn't need the video to know that, but it didn't hurt. This goes for BOTH sides of the ball...see Brandon Lafell vs MSU last season. But, I didn't see a single defensive play in all that App St footage that impressed me. I saw them getting burned, outrun, and run over...by their offense. That may say something about their offense, but it speaks volumes about their defense to me. I now see those dinks and dunks turning into 60 yarders, and Charles Scott plowing people over, while Murphy and KW blow their doors off or simply hurdle them. And oh my God when Trindon gets loose. I said I was changing my pick...I picked 21 pts...and was thinking maybe LSU 28 App 7-10 Now?? LSU 56 App 13-17 Am I the only one who noticed the lack of speed and lack of hitting on defense from the video?? I mean, I know it was a spring game...but still...in our spring game, Coleman was taking names...and we know CJ's gonna bring it. Couple that with decent LB's, and the DLine that a lot of NFL teams wish they had...and I think it's ugly. I don't like agreeing with Clair, but I have to here.
LSU played hands-down its worst game of the season (minus Georgia) in 2005 against Appy State and won 24-0 without being threatened much. This team is good at executing their system, but they just don't have the talent. Their best player on their entire roster might have been a Rivals 2-star player.
I respect other schools and the people that learn from them. To the coaches and players for Appy St be advised; you have yourself pumped into oblivion over "heart matters" and "finish the play", works well for a Michigan team with no heart and a "what are we gonna do for the next 20 years" wounded mentality. Michigan was not a defending champion from the SEC! They were Michigan. You must beat first the heat, the speed, the 4th quarter stamina, the play book, the lines-BOTH SIDES, the 92,000 freaks out of their seats and the legendary tailgates which led them there. Bring your heart but don't forget your Ben-Gay cause leaving Tiger Stadium in August doesn't come cheap. You got yourself an asswhoppin coming which will be legendary in your National Championship minds. You may very well succeed at losing to them Tigers; after all losing to Big Daddy doesn't hurt as bad as Michigan losing to you. Enjoy the road trip. Don't need your towel; we will have one waiting for you. Don't forget to try the boudin, perhaps your only pleasure leaving Baton Rouge. :geaux:
I don't expect a high-scoring affair. LSU has a green QB that they will bring along slowly--safe passes, no INT's. LSU also has four experienced running backs and a distinguished offensive line. I expect long-time-consuming drives because LSU is going to run, run, run the football until the quarterback finds his comfort zone, hopefully by game four.
All due respect, this ain't the 05' Mountaineers. Mindsets have changed, talent has improved, and we aren't here for the money. We got several 3 stars this year which may not impress you guys, but for FCS is a big deal. I'm not saying we win and my score may have been a little less of a margin than realistic, but I'm biased We can hang for at least awhile and I expect to score some points...I'm honestly more worried about us on the defensive side.
i think app state will keep it close in the first half, say 17-10 LSU at halftime, then LSU blows the doors off come second half and ends up winning 45-10, mostly due to the app state defense being worn down and the LSU depth being a major factor.
Hatch looked pretty good throwing 2 TDs in the Spring Game. Add in a full fall practice and we're going to see a confident LSU score 6 TDs or more against App St. with a defense that is absolutely "smothering", leaving the ESPN pundits gasping for adjectives. After it gets over 35 points somewhere in the middle of the 3rd Quarter, Mr. Crowton will pull Mr. Hatch and put in Mr. Lee and the backups. LSU will cruise to another 2 or 3 touchdowns. Apple State gets a shot at a long FG, but misses it and this leaves a killer LSU defense atop the nation's defensive statistics after the first game, having allowed Apple State only 50-75 total net yards, and gathering 4 turnovers. FINAL SCORE: LSU 56, Appalachian State 0
Unless our defense has improved from last year, we'll struggle in Death Valley to contain LSU at all. We do return Pierre Banks at bandit - I'm glad for that. We also graduated a fair portion of the O-line that made Armanti's job a little easier at QB. At one App game last year, an SEC season ticket holder friend watching the game with me said over and over, "I've seen Tebow play, and he ain't Armanti." I hope that holds true this year, too. Do I think App St can win? Of course. That's why they play the game on the field instead of in the newspaper. Do I think an App St win is likely? Not really - not in Baton Rouge this August. I'm looking forward to a great trip down and a great time watching college football. See you on the 30th!
Wrong! Football is played on the innernit. LSU 63 Application St 0. Then it gets real ugly in the 2nd half. Just joshin man. Glad yall hilbillies are here! :thumb:
Thanks. We're glad to be here. I'm glad LSU isn't as far from here as Ann Arbor ... those long drives are killin' me at my age! Hey, we'll score at least once ...
