If other teams don’t have this issue, why the hell do we? Kinda indicates we’re doing something wrong.
this wasn’t our year to make a run anyway. yeah we’ll be in the tourney and maybe make some noise, but we’re a year away from really chasing a title. recruiting at the top of college baseball is probably the toughest thing any college coach in any sport can do. you can’t just not recruit those top guys, because sometimes they actually land on campus (Bregman is a recent example). so you have to offer and even sign them. which doesn’t leave very many spots left for that next tier of guys. then sometimes it goes the other way. you sign a kid that by all accounts is going to school, and then he doesn’t. Zack Lee a few years ago did that. EVERYBODY knew he wasn’t signing and was coming to LSU. The Dodgers were notorious for being cheap on draft picks took him. And all reports were because they knew he wouldn’t sign nd they’d save his slot money. Then LA threw a wrench in the plans by paying him over slot value and he never came to Baton Rouge.
FL must be really lucky. I’m not saying it isn’t tough, I’m just saying we’re a baseball blueblood and should be excellent at this. That said, it’s early and there are injuries and Maineri is known to come on late. And I don’t really follow baseball, just halfway give a crap because it’s a borderline major sport.
Florida has “down” years too. they have a different approach to building their team than we do. they stockpile pitchers. we try to be more balanacwd between arms and bats.
Mainieri said since he hired Alan dunn lsu has had the lowest era in the sec. even better than Florida.
