Darnell Lazarre and Chris Johnson are probably my two all-time favorite hoopsters. Darnell is playing in the D League now, and playing at a high level. CJ just had a 10 day call up.

    Right.

And Garrett Green needs to be less like Dirk Nowitski and more like Darnell Lazare. Get your boards and keep folks off the block. Hit your 5 footers and lay-ups, then get in rhythm for your jumpshot.

Seems fundamental, but often times, it's not.

    Another Comparison... Darrin Horn

It should be noted that as LSU plays South Carolina tonight, another comparison can be drawn. USC's Darrin Horn was another young up and comer coach hired around the time Trent was. The same year in fact, but a little bit earlier in the year by USC.

I liked him a lot, coming from basketball "mid-major" Western Kentucky, sporting an uptempo game, and good guard play. Horn has been quietly doing a good job recruiting and coaching. But, not quite the same stage, and not yet to the NCAA tournament, although he tied for the SEC East first place in his first year, and may be "bouncing back" from the bottom a little faster than Trent.

    His coaching results to date:

Let's geaux Tigers, and see if there can be some new found passion tonight in PMAC.

In a game that didn't seem to have too many bright spots, other than a closer loss and a few runs that perhaps show some toughness and ability to concentrate somewhat and mount a run, at least you can say good game from Garrett Green and Andre Stringer. Green didn't play out of the comfort zone, hit his free throws and got some boards. Actually, the inside guys had an advantage on USC with their size and at least they played a better game. Still didn't get enough boards given the match ups, but at least he didn't take bad shots.

Stringer also seemed to find a rhythm with his shot and played a decent game. You can tell that Stringer is getting better. We had pretty bad games from Turner and Derenbecker and that's probably the difference in the game.

Interesting quotes from Trent in the media session yesterday...

It's interesting what he says about consistency and break-downs. I still think the guy knows what he's doing. He just needs these guys to grow up faster. The margin of error in these closer games is a matter of a few plays and some scores here or there.

White and Dotson played well against So Car as well. I was also really impressed with the way Chris Bass defended.

A case in point of what I was complaining about earlier in this thread (Duke/UNC fans at LSU), there are facebook statuses from my LSU friends like "UNC all the way" and "Been a Dukie since '91... Wut about u???? GO DUKE".

Shameful stuff, especially when we have a game tonight ourselves.
