Russell Shepard Jr. @LSUShep10 8h Happy to say I'm a @Eagles !!!! Everything happens for a reason #ManOfFaith #TearsOfJoy Russell Shepard Jr. @LSUShep10 7h Praying for those #Tigers still waiting for a call !!! Brad Wing @bwing38 6h So grateful that the Philadelphia @Eagles have given me the opportunity to fulfill my dreams!
"I'm happy to go as a free agent," said Lonergan, a three-year starter who joins former Tiger teammate and fellow Rummel Raider Craig Steltz. "I got a call this morning form the Bears that they might pick me and kept in touch with them all day. You always want to be drafted, but I'm not super disappointed. I've always dreamed of playing in the NFL and I'm going to have fun trying."
Mike Ford, also to Bears "It feels great, amazing," said the 5- foot-10, 215-pounder from Leesville, who passed on his senior season. "At the same time it was disappointing. They said I have a chance to compete for the No. 2 job. I just have to go up there and work hard, I just want to play football."
Chase Clement didn't tweet anything in response to going to the Giants, instead he just retweeted some tweets to let people know how he felt, starting with these two: Chaseclement retweeted Joe Stock @shoottherock12 7h Congrats to @Chaseclement for getting picked up as a free agent with the Giants!! #blessed #proud Chaseclement retweeted Avery Striebel @averystriebs 7h A GIANT CONGRATULATIONS TO MY NEW YORK GIANT!!!!! @Chaseclement Words cannot describe how proud I am of you. Can't wait for what's ahead ❤
Shep has to make their team first, he's just been signed for try-outs. You get to bring in 90 players now, but you have to cut them down to 53 i don't see how anyone thinks LSU did a bad job utilizing a player (Shep) that the entire NFL (including Chip Kelly) agrees isn't worth even being taken in the Top254, much in the Top10 like the recruiting services had him rated at out of high school. Also, as for the best way to utilize Shep, Chavis wanted him at DB at LSU, and at LSU's Pro Day, NFL teams were interested in Shep as a DB, and made him do DB drills to see how he looked Shep wasn't the only total bust of his recruiting class that LSU was heavily after Two other guys that just got signed as UDFA but didn't get drafted (were not top254 talent) that Tiger fans were dying to get in Shep's recruiting class were DT Jamarkus McFarland (rated #11/#36 overall player in the nation out of high school) and S Ray Ray Armstrong (rated #12/#21 overall player in the nation out of high school) Like Shep, those two turned out to be vastly overrated. You have overrated busts every year in both NCAA recruiting and the NFL draft. It's fairly common
Shep is a WR who can't catch. There isn't really a big market for those. He had the misfortune to play on a team with Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu so he never got a chance to be a returner. He should have transferred out after his junior year and tore it up at a FCS school. Did Ford have a personal issue that made him leave early? He was going to see the field again at LSU... I pictured him stepping into the slot a bit this season.
Sucks worse if he got a senior year, career-ending injury like Ciron Black. As it is, the junior-year injury must have loomed large if he dropped from a projected first-round left tackle to undrafted free agent.
Michael Ford is a steal. We were just too deep, if he would have went a school like Memphis he could have had a Deangelo Williams like career, maybe not as many yards but still a great career.
Shep will now be w/a coach who may be able to put him in position to succeed on offense, though. Obviously, that same coach learned something after getting burned by Wing, too.
