The big question is could we win the West and NOT make it to the big dance? Is there precedence for that?
By winning the West, they should make it. Unless they win the west by default, which means that all SEC west teams end up with a losing conference record.
So let's say LSU goes 9-7, wins the west and ends up with a 21-11 record and has an RPI of 87, wins one game in the tourney and finishes 22-12. Does the NCAA take LSU?
Obviously it depends on the other bubble teams but 9-7 looks a lot better than 8-8. Our out of conference schedule will not help and we have zero quality wins. We will probably need to at least win a game in either Knoxville or Lexington.
didnt that happen to lsu in somewhere around 05? i remember the team being 8-8 and maybe tying for first in SECw. remember the year lloreda quit at the end.
i remember the season a little better now. im pretty sure they tied for 2nd (miss st had a great year). the remarkable thing about that year was that the tigers got a bye in the SEC tourney and i think the loss of a good chance for another win was unfair and hurt them. i also really wondered if the selection committee counted the loss of lloreda against the team. im sure they did since they clearly did in the case of cincy losing kenyon martin that one year.
I can't speak for Florida but judging from the passion for hockey in French Canada, can French Louisiana be counted out? Come on, LSU coonasses + alcohol + fighting that sometimes gets interrupted by a violent sport = a "damn fine" soiree Hockey? Mais yea, chere
