I agree, I wish Nike would have incorporated the old LSU gold pants into the pro combat uni. I also would've like to have seen LSU not use the L-S-U and Tiger logo on the side of the old gold helmets. Wish they would have left it with the single purple stripe, sticking with a more traditional look.
I know I'm in the minority, but I like the Pro Combat uni, but ONLY if it's one game every 2 years or something like that. In no way would I want to upset tradition and change them for every game. That said, I would love to see a 'purple jersey' version of the combat uni.
I agree with you - a one-game event it's really cool. Plus, and likely the most important reason is the players love doing it. They look forward to it. I liked the purple "Hurricane Katrina" recovery purple jerseys but I'd rather them remove the Pelicans and use the full shoulder stripe.
you think it's cool so you figure the players agree with you. someone who thinks it's not cool will figure the players agree with them. impossible to know what the players think unless you take a vote from the team, and even that will vary team to team and it will vary depending on what the proposed new uniform looks like no matter what, there will be some players that hate it, some that love it, and some that don't care, you can say the same thing about our fans but, being that you tend to identify with your uniform, i'd think most players don't want to change it, unless they didn't like the uniform in the first place (but if it was that big of a deal to them, then they could have gone to another school, it's not like we recruit kids that don't have other options) the pro combat thing has nothing to do with the kids, it's all about the $$$$. you come out with a new jersey/helmet/whatever, that's another item fans will buy (and a portion of the sales go to LSU). also it generates publicity, which is good for advertising. and i wouldn't be surprised if Nike gives a team a big sum of money to agree to do the pro combat thing as well
to add to that: it's like the day games vs night games thing. at LSU, we have long history of doing night games, and so we tend to identify with that, and most don't like to change that. on the flip side, teams like Notre Dame and Ohio State have a long history of doing day games, which is why most of their fans don't like doing night games. even at LSU, i'm sure we have some fans and players that prefer day games... but we don't do day games to make them happy.... we do it for the $$$$
