No - if you read my post, I said I DO NOT believe teams didn't want to travel to Tiger Stadium. As you hint at, sounds like this was a money decision (shocker!). It's too bad. I'm not hard over on this one way or the other, but I have to admit there's only one positive to the Appy State game (easy schedule before Auburn), and that only applies if we - ahem - don't - cough - choke. <------- fingers crossed, knocking on wood, salt over shoulder, four leaf clover in hair, rabbit's foot in pocket....
Perhaps this is how the game is being billed - for the national TV audience: SI College Football Page: "Champs Clash: LSU to host Appalachian St." Link
We'll see what they come up with for '09, as they have to fill the App St game. Ausberry said they will have something on that soon. Maybe we get a decent home/home. I'm not one who thinks we need to play big boys every year, but App St, Troy, UNT, and Tulane sure is a disappointing schedule for the $1000 price tag.
i'm not saying we're going to take them lightly, i'm saying in light of what happened last year with michigan, it'll be the opposite. UAB happened under a different coach after upsetting tennessee at home ( a huge win). UAB was a letdown game. plus after spring practice and summer sessions the players are dying to hit someone. this team will be pumped. (see LSU vs Miss St 2007) man, i'm usually a pessimist and my first kool aid post gets me blasted. i'm going back to the dark side.:hihi:
why not appalacian state? after all they are..... hot hot hot!
I don't get the reasoning of many here. You bitch about tickets and rightfully so. But you'd rather LSU play on the road and have one less home game a year? I don't know about you, but I'd rather see LSU play a cupcake at home than to not see them play at all.
If we had played App State last season and won 48-0, instead of VT, do you think we would have been in the BCS NC game?
that whole "oh, we beat Va Tech" thing is getting really old. Because the team wore out at the tail end of the season and lost a game to Arkansas that they wouldn't have otherwise lost had they been able to play at 50% output in the game at Va Tech's slot last year. There is a reason the team got progressively worse from the Va Tech game this past season.
There's no guarantee that App State won't physically challenge the Tigers next year, but I'm thinking your logic is right on. If we win the SEC, we'll be in great shape. But if SoS decides it (i.e BCS bid), then those of us saying "relax" will be eating crow.
