Not negating. We still are proud of that '58 team, and claim it's title in the grand scheme of things. Just when talking about out current run we've been on we use the BCS instead. Plus we're the only school out there who has more than 1:thumb:

hey go apps 93 great first post!

we are not negating our history, it's just what nootch said. too many other fanbases cling to the past for glory. we are all very proud of our nat'l championship in '58 but the '03 and '07 are still fresh in our heads so we'd like to live in the here and now. because in the here and now, we're #1:crystal:.

y'all should appreciate that as the apps are #1 as well.

I hope to check in often between now and then. Always nice to see what our opponents are talking about, whether it be about us or whatever. I hope some our more overzealous fans will refrain from too much smack talking. I do, however, expect them to show up around here from time to time. Some of our guys are getting a pretty good dose over at TigerDroppings. You folks seem to be much more civil. I appreciate that. That being said, I love my team as much as anybody and try to refrain from smack but I may let a little fly myself from time to time. But I will not attempt to claim superiority over the Tigers. Well, unless we win by more than 2 TD's. :D Hey, any given Saturday right? By the way, AnyGivenSaturday.com is a pretty good FCS board, if you're interested. I'd invite you all to come on over and get a little education on the FCS way of life. Couldn't hurt right? I post as jonmac over there. Looking forward to continuing with the discussion of this much anticipated game.:thumb:

Just going to put this out there if anyone interested, Sports South airing Under The Lights....Appalachian State, tonight at 8pm (EST). This is a very good program and really shows what the ASU team and coaching staff are all about.

Not sure about the west coast, Sports South is regional, based in Atlanta. Thanks for the welcome, like all true fans the ASU nation are proud of our team and their accomplishments over the past several years. We may be a little spirited, but this fan will never be rude. Hope for a good game in Aug. I know our fans are very excited.

Understand there is some disapppointment about not getting a big BCS school to play ( I wanted USC in the valley, bad). But we (ASU) can't find anyone to play either.
Most of us are grateful that LSU would schedule us. That game in 2005 marked a turnaround for us. It gave our guys enough confidence in themselves to win a national championship that year (and every year since). We can't get the BCS schools in our area to play us. They are afraid of us.

LSU has never been afraid of anyone. I am proud that my school gets to play my other school. Our kids get to test themselves against the truly elite in the game.
One minor point though, ASU is division 1, FCS and hasn't been Div. 2 in my lifetime and I am old (lol)....

I made a bad decision in that I willingly wasted a lot of time on a USC fan forum reading a 20+ page thread on this subject. There should be a rule that myopic analysis should have length limits.

The entire schedule in any given year is the body of work that should be judged, not a subset thereof. If LSU plays 5 or 6 SEC teams ranked in the top 20 in any given season then that is a far more compelling argument than what OOC opponents fill out the schedule. Last year, much was made about LSU having 2 losses to "weak" SEC teams in Kentucky and Arkansas. What mattered more in the end was that LSU played a total of 8 teams ranked in the top 20 ands beat 6 of them: their only 2 losses coming in triple overtime to teams that featured athletes that will get selected in the top 15 picks of the draft - both were considered serious Heisman candidates (how many Heisman candidates did Stanford have?)

Frankly I think that SEC teams should be allowed to schedule relatively "soft" OOC opponents with some impunity since it is unlikely that the Pac-10, Big 10, and Big 12 conferences will have as many ranked teams on intra-conference schedules.

Having said that, I would love to see LSU schedule better OOC opponents in that it would help LSU in two important areas: recruiting and eliminating debate concerning strength of schedule. The real question is, how do you balance this?

Tulane, for historical rivalry reasons, should be kept on the schedule (yeah, I'm old school.) Appalachain State has a great program - upsetting Michigan last year moves them a notch higher in public perception. I'd like to see better opponents than Troy and North Texas.

Ideally, I'd like to see LSU schedule a couple of pansies that USC plays like Idaho and Stanford just to shut up the University of Spoiled Children. How can they gripe if the same teams are on their schedule also? The same can be said about the Brent Musbergers of the world...that is another topic. I'd rather not get indigestion right now.

You instantly created exactly 2.5 friends for the use of the term myopic!

The guy that loves big words. The other guy that used it. And the .5 for the guy that spell-checked it's previous use. :yelwink2:

Welcome to the board. Love for the competitors who come with substance. :thumb:

I can understand why/how this would irritate appy st. fans but I think people erroneously refer to them as D2 in terms of "A's". Not saying it's correct/justified, jus sayin.
