I agree, we already have enough games in the SEC which will be tough enough. Good to have a tough opponent every few years though. The exposure in a big OOC game will do wonders for the winner. But, we have our LSU-Florida, LSU-Auburn, LSU-Bama, LSU-UGA which will be more than enough to keep us at the top of the news every week.

I see Clair's point. I surely don't want to be like a Florida and have to play a FSU every year as an OOC opponent. I would have like to have seen a Georgia Tech, Colorado, UCLA, Iowa. A legit BCS team that we could still beat rather easily.

Call me old school, but I just have always felt that what LSU does in the SEC should be what determines where they fare at the end of the year.

I might be old fashioned, but oh well.

I've been questioning Miles since he got here, and maybe Miles had little to do with this decision, but I think I'll mostly get on board with Appalachian St. We might get TV out of it and it won't be as physical. It will probably be pretty darn physical though, and Appalachian St will be out to prove something. I think it will rival a non top 10 SEC match-up, especially if Appalachian St keeps it close. I think they'll present a challenge, and I guess it will get us ready for Florida (to some degree).

I still can't say I'm thrilled about this game and I can see it being used against us later in the season (if we are competing for #1). I guess it don't really matter, though. Making it through the SEC will be tough enough. The SEC was crazy, and the grip on reality has slipped further since last season.

Just in case you forgot since football season...On august 30th we will be the ones with the black helmets and the Block "A" on the side...we will not be hard to find...not saying we will win...because in all probability we won't....but we will be there and i suspect LSU will know it!

    From TIGA: "Exactly.

If we'd schedule AT LEAST ONE home & home, we could get higher caliber OOC opponents. All that, "They're scared" talk is bullchit.

Ark plays at Texas. Aub plays at West Virginia. Georgia plays at Arizona State. Florida plays at FSU. Tenn plays at UCLA. Bama plays at Clemson... see the common denominator?

So the administration will have their "Home games" like they wanted, looky what we get...JOY. What a terrible home schedule, thank God we have Bama and Georgia."

tiga, if you go over to the Mountaineer Message Board: http://forums.delphiforums.com/appstate/ you can find the same discussion amongst the MMB faithful. We are having difficulty scheduling anyone. We have tried to schedule a home and home with the "big boys" in the FCS...no takers, NO ONE in North or South Carolina wants us on their schedule....UNC even scheduled McNeese State! (To: "...increase the recruiting footprint of Butch Davis") Now that is a laugh.

Our OOC home schedule is Jacksonville, Presbyterian, and (The Citadel, Wofford, Furman and Elon conference home games.) We travel to the wonderful confines of Samford University (Alabama) the lush 6000 seat stadium home of the Bulldogs.

Thanks for scheduling us...but don't worry too much...the Tigers will win! I think we are better than most on this board think but numbers, speed, and not overlooking us like Michigan did will be the difference!

But as I said to NC Tiger We will be the ones with the Black Helmets and the Block "A". We won't be hard to find, and we might give you a better game than any of the other OOC teams!

Okay, personally, I think Appy State will be tougher than a Baylor (one of the names mentioned) would've been. Unfortunately, there is that "IAA" label that gets put on ASU. But they could beat fully one half or more of the "IA" teams out there. You think they wouldn't hang 50 or 60 on North Texas? Please...

As for TT: they chose to play Eastern Washington. Wow...their fans are NOT pleased with that, either. Their fans wanted to play in Tiger Stadium. They would've traveled to Houston. It's far more interesting than Eastern Washington...it would've been an "experience." Plus, Houston wouldn't have been a big deal for many of the Red Raider fans because they are spread out all over Texas--most of them don't live in Lubbock after graduation.

Selfishly speaking, we should've offered them a couple of those "home" games in Texas at the new Cowboys stadium in Dallas (well, Arlington...but don't get me started on that.) Obviously, I'd love that too because I live in the DFW Metroplex--so do MANY Tiger fans. I can't go to the grocery store anymore without running into an LSU alum or three or four.

We've gotten some great guys from North Texas lately: Herman Johnson (Denton), Colt David (Grapevine), Matt Flynn and Ciron Black (Tyler.) We just signed a great prospect from Garland. A couple of games in the plush Cowboys stadium (opening in '09) would've been less of a distance for TT, but would'nt have been so far to travel for LSU fans (450 miles from Baton Rouge.) Plus, the Dallas alums would've all gone to the game--there are thousands of us. So, we blew that...in my opinion. We're starting to recruit well up here (in fact, there is a Jacob Hester "starter kit" at Plano Senior High named Rex Burkhead that Miles would do well to recruit this year.)

We need to do more home and home series with BCS schools. And we punked out of the Texas A & M series back in the mid-90's. Now, they don't want to schedule us. We never should've dropped them; it's just that we sucked then even worse that THEY suck now. So, we were tired of starter 0-fer every year.

I hate our OOC schedules, and I think our athletic dept is responsible for that. Perhaps our new AD will have a different philosophy on scheduling.

It will be used against us next year, but if we take care of business and win the SEC (with 0 or 1 losses), we "should" get to the game. We're LSU, guys. We're one of the elite now.

But I don't buy that "no one wants to play us in Tiger Stadium..."

UAB was actually the week before the big Tennessee win so I guess it was more of a look-ahead game. Some might argue that the Tennesse OT win with Rohan on a bad wheel was the biggest in LSU history. It was coming off the devastating UAB loss and gave the team a mindset that they'd start winning those close games. Miss St. was good that year and we beat them in OT and finally ended the Bama (scoreboard replay) jinx. That created the momentum of the next few recruiting classes and the rest is history.

doh, you're right it was before. can i use "josh booty was our quarterback" then for as my excuse for us losing to uab????

asutrnr, it's good to have you on the board. i hope you stick around so we can talk about our season openers. i think most on this board take asu seriously, especially after asu's showing against us a few years ago and y'all beating the wolverines last year.

but it is for that reason why i think lsu fans think we will win the game is because you will not sneak up on us. i'm looking fwd to two nat'l champions meeting and i hope you will be able to make the road trip to see asu play in BR. it's an experience like no other!!
