I agree, if Jefferson goes down, or becomes ineffectual, then Lee will get the go before Shep. I agree, Shep will be the gadget guy, and I think he'll play a lot, like Harvin did for Fla.
This is exactly what the spring game is. It's a fan day. The coaches could probably get far more out of it if they didn't have to set the format to make it appealing to the fans. We (fans) get a bit full of ourselves at times, I think.
I diagree. For one, they are going to want him to pass. Even if he DOES run, the QBs are all two-hand touch in the spring game so he won't make it far. Secondly, RM is the RB on Purple and I have a feeling that he's the better runner of the two, no matter how good Shep has looked against HS players. Personally, I want to see Shep FORCED to pass and see what the kid can do in those regards. We all know he can run. If he can prove himself as a passer as well then I'll jump on his bandwagon.
Maybe you didnt see the past couple of scrimmages they had, but Miles said that no one on the defense laid a hand on Shep, not even the first team defense.. I just really believe you dislike the guy as a player, even though he was one of the top recruits this past year. At least try to appear objective with a fellow Tiger.
I couldn't care less if they let the fans in or not. The fact is the more game like setting is a reward for the players, and a chance for someone to step up in a live game setting. This format is ultra conservative.
That's ridiculous. I have nothing against Shep at all. I Just don't believe in hailing messiahs in incoming freshman. No matter how good he was in HS, right now he's a small fish in a BIG pond. This comes from many years of getting excited about incoming freshmen only to not hear their names for AT LEAST two years after they arrive on campus, when they become the superstars they were destined to be. Shep will be there one day. But don't expect anything truly spectacular...at least consistently...from him in his FRESHMAN year. Face it...all we have to go on are great HS highlight tapes and a stats sheet. Go compare his highlight reel and stat sheet to Ryan Perrilloux and then get back to me. As a whole package...character nonwithstanding...RP was the better overall HS QB. And he was largely unimpressive in college. Same can be said of Richard Murphy, Former LA "Mr. Football" Alley Broussard, Terrance Tolliver (to date), Jai Eugene, and others. I'm just refusing to set myself up for more diappointment in an incoming freshman. After all, it's the TEAM that wins championships, not superstars. Ask the '07 squad. I'm rooting for Shep, I want to see him under center after JJ moves on. But we all know the likelihood of him truly being ready for this level at QB RIGHT NOW is slim to none. Ask J-Lee about that. JJ was an exception and that was exciting. If that's the case with Shep as well, it will certainly be a pleasant surprise. I'm just not getting my hopes up yet. Hopefully his performance today leaves me eating crow. I'll cook the thing myself in joy if that's the case. Rant over. Hope I'm wrong, but we're still more than okay if I'm right.
Significant playing time as a freshman is more than enough to hope for and he will get that this year. Miles has said time and again he is too good not to be on the field in some capacity or the other. And based on his performance during the Spring it is not Les blowing smoke.
I think we're more excited about an excellent start to an excellent career. I haven't talked to anyone who really expects Shep to start at any position. We all expect to see him get a good share of snaps like in 2007. :geauxtige
