Britni Sneed, 2001. LSU did not play more than 2 games on any day in the CWS that year. They did go to 8 innings the first game but that was the only game for that day.
This is sorta funny broham. It isn't "underhand". It's windmill and there is nothing natural about it. The arm acts like a fulcrum in the shoulder socket. Try doing that 300 times a day at full velocity and launching a projectile that fits your entire palm. Watch the shoulder in this demo.
When people say throwing overhand in unnatural I don't get it. Maybe the pitching motion isn't quite natural but just throwing anything people don't tend to trow underhanded. Even when you're a child you throw a rock or whatever overhand by instinct.
Baylor played three on Sunday this past weekend due to weather delay's Saturday. That's a first for me (my recollection.)
Sure it is, at least more so than overhand. When you walk your arms swing in a similar fashion. That's why female pitchers can go out there and throw around 700 pitches a week not counting practice. If that motion was unnatural there would be no fucking way they could do that. You think a male pitcher could overhand throw 700 pitches a week? Hells to the naw. Arm would be toast, there have even been cases where 2000 pitches have been thrown in a weekend by softball pitchers.
Throwing underhanded doesn't come as naturally as overhand. Even as a child you almost certainly threw overhand even the first time you picked up a rock or a marble or something and threw it. Softballers pitch underhanded because the rules say they have to. Probably does put a lot less stress on the arm and shoulders though. There are cases of Japanese Little League pitchers throwing over 200 pitches in a game or pitching 3 or 4 times a week complete games. That's the culture of Japanese baseball. If I had a kid and his coach made him pitch that much I would kick his ass. If it wasn't for that kind of burnout there would be a lot more Japanese pitchers in MLB.
Walk really fast and let your arms go limp. Your arms will swing in a similar motion. That's more natural than overhand.
I don't usually throw anything while I'm walking. Of course I wouldn't swing my arms back and forth overhead when I walk. I would end up in the looney bin. There is an episode of Seinfeld where one of Elaine's co-workers walks without swinging her arms at all.
I'm not even trying to address a comparison between the two. I don't think that serves a purpose. What I did address is this idea that windmill is a natural motion. I have never walked and swung my arms in a 360 circle. You try it. The difficulty is when you get your arm at the peak pivot and then have to bring it on the downside which is where the speed comes from. The only way to do that is with several adjustments to hips, legs, and torso. None of that is natural. Add to that, a softball weighs 6.25 oz and requires the full use of the palm and fingers for grip. Imagine how that impacts the arm swing. 700 is way more than softball pitchers take on in a week. 2-3 games at 145/game with maybe 100 for practice. That's just the A pitcher. Relievers go far less. That is why pitchers almost never repeat a national championship.
