Pitch for pitch the wear and tear is far less. If a baseball pitcher throws 100 game pitches and a softball pitcher throws 100 the wear and tear on the baseball pitcher's arm is far less.
I fully realize a lot here don't get into the "conference pride" aspect in sporting events. You may not want to feel good about it, but it's worth noting that a win today (or two if needed) puts five of the eight teams in OKC hailing from the SEC. If you look at the bracket, you'll find one entire side (assuming LSU wins) that's nothing but SEC teams. (Eerily reminiscent of football about a decade ago: UF vs UT and AU vs LSU for the power teams/match-ups.) Last year, the championship game featured two SEC teams. I've been following softball, closely, since 1997. To see the balance of power shift from the West coast to the SE has really been a remarkable evolution.
Two comments. First, I thought it was kinda funny that we fly all the SEC pennants (in the form of signs) at Tiger Park. I laughed thinking how vball would feel about a UCLA sign hanging up anywhere around USC. On the shift from the west, out of curiosity I checked some rosters yesterday. The SEC used to be littered with players from the PAC 10 states. LSU has five California girls but Bama and Tennessee had few (Don't remember exactly how many but 1 or 2 each, I think). When Tennessee had Monica Abbott, they had like 9 California girls on the roster.
No shit right, the SEC is really kicking some ass in softball and baseball, this conference may have 3 baseball teams as national seeds. That's pretty amazing.
