http://bleacherreport.com/articles/46571-calm-down-everyone-app-state-has-no-shot-vs-lsu according to this article anyway. i feel a little differently though.
Hmmmm. Does App have a tremendous fight on their hands from LSU? Yes. Will Death Valley be intimidating? Only to any player with a heartbeat. Will the beer and jambalaya version of LSU fan cheering be much stronger than the wine and cheese Michigan cheering? Certainly. Is App DII? No. Those schools have even fewer scholarships than we do. We're D-IAA (okay FCS) Did a bunch of App kids get passed over by D-IA (okay BCS) schools? Yep. We're much smaller than most BCS teams. Just think, our QB has bulked up this year. He weighs in at 180 now ... and still has chicken legs. Does LSU have anything to worry about? Worry may be too strong a word. Prepare for? Yes. I'm sure Les Miles will take good care of preparation. Does LSU have App smashed in the depth category? Absolutely. Remember, some of the difference in the original D-IA / D-IAA was scholarship availability. Is it possible that App can win? Well, if it weren't, would the game be played at all? We've all got our opinions - just like the writer of that article. I hope LSU doesn't have a cupcake game on the 30th. If they do, we may have to take some cupcake comments from Kirk Herbstriet (check youtube for his comments pre-Michigan). I hope App plays well enough to keep it respectable ...
I realize what you're trying to say, and yeah I think the article was a bit over the top. I think if LSU comes into the game looking to the future that they're going to get bit just like Mich did. But, I had to laugh at this comment. . . We have players on our team that weight 180lbs too. They're called the punter. :thumb:
Our punter last year outweighed our QB by probably 40+ pounds! Armanti Edwards is very small. The comment about his having bulked up was made as a huge tongue in cheek comment. It makes sense that no BCS team even looked at him as a QB ... like most of our players, he doesn't have the size.
This is the website that publishes a 16 year old who HOPES to write for his school paper...thats not even a joke, thats a legit bio from a kid who wrote about the Panthers:lol:
LSU will be ready. I expect the same as the article. We'll be a 40 point favorite in this game, if there is a line at all. LSU will dominate. I am hoping for a shutout.
Apps biggest problem will be their lack of size and depth. If LSU comes out the way they did their first game last year, App will be done with by the first quarter. Nothing against App, look what LSU's linemen did to MSU the first game last year. You get tired of beating on each other day in and day out during two a days (especially when "each other" is opposing All American candidates). LSU is not unbeatable this year, but I will be disappointed if the size and aggression of the Tigers do not dominate this game early on.
Sure. The football ain't round and it bounces funny ways. Anybody can win. If LSU is complacent and Appstate inspired they could pull another Michigan. Absolutely. I just ain't puttin' my money on it. This what I like about this game. The probability that it will be far more fun than the usual cupcake stomp in game one because the Mountaineers have the kind of confidence that comes from winning big. It's going to be a football game.
There will be no line on this game vs an I-AA squad. However, if there were a line greater than 3 touchdowns, I'd take appy and the points. First of all, LSU's defensive system blows against a spread running QB, and we are breaking in a new quarterback with absolutely no experience. My pick??? 27-7 LSU.... but we allow 200+ total offensive yards. Look for Jai to get lost on a couple of deep bombs as well.
Deek, I will give you the 21 points in a friendly wager. I think you are correct on most of your points, I think LSU will win by more than 3 touchdowns in the opening game in Tiger Stadium
