Perhaps, but outside of Louisiana, there is no greater concentration of LSU alums than in Houston. It's Oil and the I-10 corridor. There are even two different Alumni chapters in the same city, and honestly, they reflect a fraction of the LSU fans here. For example, I am a member of neither chapter, and can think of at least 30-40 alums here that are not either. You can't drive anywhere without seeing an LSU car sticker and Houston is a very big place. I would like to see LSU in Dallas as well for the novelty, but Houston is so big and produces so many players, LSU doesn't need to recruit hardly anywhere else in TX. LSU is as entrenched in Houston, as OU is in Dallas. Perhaps, even more so.
Actually, just the opposite. Bunkie is to the left, and Ville Platte is to the right.:yelwink2: Anyways, it is a boring drive. Dallas isn't a bad drive from here, but it's still closer to B.R. I could see the Houston thing too as I believe LSU is much bigger there than in Dallas. I guess we just have to find a Texas team that wants to play. Personally I'd love see a Ta&m series.ldskule:
I don't doubt for a minute that Houston has more LSU alums, but in the dozen years I've lived in Big D, I see more and more LSU gear everywhere I go. I literally cannot go anywhere, at any time, without seeing LSU bumper stickers, hats, t-shirts, etc. It's refreshing because I felt very alone for my first few years up here. And for what it's worth, if I were to move anywhere else in Texas, Houston would be my choice. I've always loved that city.
That's complete crap............tell me how South Florida and Alabama are in the radius. As for the press, LSU get TONS of press in the FW Star Telegram for crying out loud. I can tell you right now, Oklahoma's "recruiting radius" includes lots of LA, WHY, they AND LSU recruit NATIONALLY now, period. HS coaches that get to meet college coaches on a regular basis ARE a great source for excellent players. The bottom line, THE PREMIER STADIUM for ANY FOOTBALL EVENT in this country is about to open its doors, I've been in it. IT BLOWS RELIANT AWAY, IT BLOWS THE SUPERDOME AWAY, IT BLOWS ATLANTA AWAY. LSU playing SOMEONE in that stadium will reap the benefits.:geaux:
True, but the original poster was heading south from Alex. As for the spinning, I try to wait until I'm in BR to pop a top.:hihi:
No, its the truth. Almost all southeastern programs have recruiting directors that set up everything that happens. To manage a budget and operate and recruit efficiently a line is set. It does NOT mean they do not recruit outside of certain areas, rather they spend the majority of their time in one area. Les will say he recruits nationally, which is true, but their recruiting staff has a detailed plan.
Top recruits are recruited by LSU in the DFW area. Rex Burkehead (RB) Plano HS was the Offensive player of the Year in DFW 5-A and was recruited by LSU... (First Example that comes to mind).... I guess the bottom line is Texas would love to host an LSU game. :geauxtige:geauxtige :geauxtige:geauxtige
I would attribute that to LSU's overall rising popularity. Dallas does have a ton of Louisiana people, but it mostly from the north, and dominantly from Shreveport. Houston is almost exclusively populated from the south of La. It's almost like Louisianans can only move in a straight line! As to loving the city, I am not sure about that personally. Though it has so many advantages, it lacks an identity to me. It's almost too young and continues to grow too fast. In it's defense, the people remind me the most of La. people in generosity, friendliness, and general laid back attitude. More so than anywhere else in TX. If I could live anywhere in TX, I probably would have picked Austin. C'est la vie...
Many cities in Texas suffer from the same "youngness" as Houston, so I won't hold that against it. What I bolded is the thing that I love about Houston. It takes itself much less seriously than does Dallas, which can come across as pretentious (Dallas women, for instance, are in a class by themselves; hence, NONE of my female friends in Dallas are actually FROM Dallas; they are from San Angelo, Kansas City, Abilene, Columbus, INDIA, etc.) That being said, I really like living in Plano. It's clean and safe and has great schools. It's a nice place to raise a family, but in the back of my mind, I still worry that my daughters will absorb some of the materialism that I don't like here.
