C'mon. Let's all say it together. "The LSU defense has lost a step." There. See. It's not so bad. It's no big whoop. Defense ITSELF thinks they've been playing below their own expectations. Miles said it himself at the presser - many defensive leaders who were very productive during Ole Miss did not contribute their names to the chain of game performers (locker room motivational tool the team uses). They need to play better. Period. No use pretending it's not true. And I think they will. And they'll do it without Beckwith at full speed. This is a tough team. They'll come through.
The defence has kept us in a lot of games this year. If they've lost a step... no big deal. The offence is coming together. LSU rarely has a 1000 yard per season running back because they're so deep there. Rotating your backs is just plain smart. I'm so thrilled that we have younger running backs with 2 and 3 years left that are getting their playing time in now. Same with the receivers. After Early and Jacob are gone, we'll not be in a bind for someone to step up. It's just going to get better my friends. If you build a championship team....they will come.
I think what will certainly happen is that the Tigers WILL be fired up for this game, esp. this being the last game for the seniors at Tiger Stadium. Despite having given up more big plays in recent games, the defense had been able to tighten up the noose at key periods to help secure the win. Therefore they can step up the play, though they also need the stadium crowd's emotion to help them through.
I was referring to the chicken little mentality many people seem to have regarding the defense. No question that injuries have hampered their ability to play to full potential, but they are far from being any kind of disappointment. Anyone remember how at the start of the season the offense was too "vanilla", not very effective since Doucet was out and Flynn was hobbled with a high ankle injury? The D picked up the slack and the team found a way to win. Now the situation is reversed, with the O playing strong and the D not playing at full strength. And guess what? This team is still finding ways to win. The next two games will be tough, but this team will continue to do just that: find a way to win.
A wise man once said..."Don't bemoan a victory". :milesmic: If the 'D' is struggling, the 'O' picks it up...and vice versa. I see no reason to think this will change.:thumb:
Is it Friday yet??? I hope the original thead title is right, but I don't buy it. I see a close game like last year, maybe one the offense has to win. Like 31-28 LSU. With HDN's last game probable, he will have the hogs juiced to the high heaven, the only way to make something out of their season. Buckle your chin straps!
Me too. Arkansas' defense has had games in which they've given up huge yardage through the air- looking for a big day from our receivers.
One thing you gotta like about the defense lately is red zone execution. It's been really good. Notice my scores show lots of field goals in the next couple of games by our opponent.
Islstl, Can we have a few field goals too? I have Colt (ringer) for fantasy league at 20 points a pop! Just a few... PLEASE? :champs:
