No surprise, but now it's official. http://www.secdigitalnetwork.com/NE...ec-to-host-three-ncaa-baseball-regionals.aspx
Kentucky got hosed, probably because their stadium only holds 3,000 Miami is the most undeserving of those teams that got a regional, they were ranked 21/21/23/24/NR in the last polls, but their stadium holds 5,000, they are in a huge media market, and they bring more name-brand recognition, having been to the CWS 23 times
The sec getting 3 host sites continues the prejudice against the sec. Wouldn't surprise me to see some sec teams having to play in the same regional. And it would definitely surprise me if sec were paired in the same super regional brackets.
National Seeds (home field advantage in Super Regionals) Florida (SEC) # 1 UCLA (Pac) # 2 FSU (ACC) # 3 Baylor (Big 12) # 4 Oregon (Pac) # 5 North Carolina (ACC) # 6 LSU (SEC) # 7 South Carolina (SEC) # 8 Baton Rouge Regional - LSU (SEC) - Oregon State (Pac) - UL-Monroe - Belmont if/when we win our regional, we will host the Super Regional vs the winner of... Miami Regional - Miami (ACC) - UCF - Missouri State - Stony Brook
the SEC has the potential to put 7 teams in the CWS (also note Texas A&M and Missouri are both in the NCAA tourney as well) 1) Florida v Vanderbilt would be the only SEC teams that could knock each other out before the CWS (they would meet in a Super Regional). NC State and Georgia Tech are their biggest competition for the spot in the CWS 2) LSU - has to beat Oregon St and Miami 3) South Carolina - has to beat Clemson and winner of UVA/Oklahoma 4) Kentucky - has to beat Purdue and winner of Oregon/Cal State Fullerton 5) Arkansas - has to beat Rice and Baylor 6) Ole Miss - has to beat Texas A&M, TCU and UCLA 7) Miss State - has to beat Florida State (who just lost all 3 games in ACC Tourney), then winner of Stanford Regional (Stanford/Pepperdine/Michigan State) the 8th spot in the CWS will be North Carolina, Arizona, Missouri, etc
the ACC has the potential to put five teams in the CWS... 1) NC State or Georgia Tech (they would meet in Super Regional) - biggest competition is Florida and Vanderbilt 2) UVA or Clemson (they would meet in Super Regional) - biggest competition is South Carolina and Oklahoma 3) Miami - has to beat winner of LSU/Oregon State 4) North Carolina - has to beat winner of Arizona/Missouri 5) Florida State - has to beat Miss State and winner of Stanford Regional (Stanford/Pepperdine/Michigan State)
the Pac has the potential to put 5 teams in the CWS 1) Oregon State - has to beat LSU then Miami 2) Oregon - has to beat Cal State Fullerton and the winner of Kentucky/Purdue 3) UCLA - has to beat winner of College Station Regional (Texas A&M, Ole Miss, TCU) 4) Arizona - has to beat Missouri and then North Carolina 5) Stanford - has to beat Pepperdine, Michigan State, and then the winner of Miss State/Florida State
the Big 12 has the potential to put 4 teams in the CWS 1) Oklahoma - has to win @UVA then beat winner of South Carolina/Clemson 2) Baylor - has to beat winner of Arkansas/Rice at home in Waco 3) Texas A&M - has to beat Ole Miss, TCU and then UCLA in Los Angeles 4) Missouri - has to win @Arizona, then win @North Carolina as for Texas, their fans are upset they were left out of the NCAAT
