This makes my day as an alumni of South Alabama!!!!!! Ill be there in Death Valley for that game! ....not exactly sure what colors i'll wear.... I mean, i grew up my whole life wanting to go to LSU up until senior year of high school before I decided I wanted to go to a smaller school.
How about preseason in college football? The Associated Press: Preseason in college football? Why not?
Well, it is 2016, South Alabama should be a full-fledged member of Division I FBS and the Sun Belt Conference by then if all goes according to plan. Better them than a 1-AA/FCS school (still waiting for the other shoe to drop on the in-state FCS schools. You watch; Grambling and Nicholls coming to Tiger Stadium. Think it can't happen? That's what I said about Northwestern State five years ago).
We play at Arizona State that year so I'm not too worried about our OOC schedule. Just as long as we schedule one more solid BCS team, I'll be content.
As long as we don't also play McNeese State AND LA Tech AND USL AND Arkansas State, then I'm OK. Every team in the country plays a couple of these weak-azz schools. For instance, USC plays Washington State, Cal, Arizona and Arizona State every year - how embarrassing is that?!
While we have to schedule some teams as fodder, I never did like playing 1AA teams. To me, that's for teams whose best chance is 7-5 with a weak bowl game. I'm glad we caught South Alabama so far in advance, but there are several 1A schools that we can play that can't possibly beat us.
I think we should schedule BCS powerhouses every year and then enjoy the excitement that comes with the struggle to overcome that early loss
