LSU Rugby ?

So I was flipping channels when the Memorial got rained out, as I was flipping I heard the familiar LSU LSU LSU chant so I stopped.
It was 7's Rugby national championship.
Now LSU was not on the screen playing but while interviewing some guy who the trophy is named after I saw a bunch of guys in LSU Rugby Uniforms and said LSU LSU chant in the background.
Dartmouth and Army were playing the championship game which was on NBC.

Now yes I can google it but do we have a 7's rugby team. I assume yes since I saw them, is this a club team ? A University Sponsored team with Schollys etc.

What can anyone tell me about the 7's Rugby team.

I actually watched the first half. I love Rugby it looks like an awesome sport and no one can say those guys are not tough

 

i was talking to podkatt about this, and for some reason, i thought nbc was actually showing an old championship game while the lsu game was going on. i got a bit confused on that part. all i know is i didnt know lsu had a rugby team. i also wondered if it was a club sport. he and i didnt get to talk much so i didnt get the details. but he thought the uni's were hideous and that if he is getting into rugby, he is really searching for something lsu to watch and football season needs to get here soon.

i looked on lsusports.net and couldnt find anything about it.

 

what i gathered from pod, lsu beat nd, 24-0. i wasnt sure if that was the championship game, just that the game being shown was an old championship game. why they would show an old game and not the live one is beyond me. maybe nbc didnt want to show nd getting their asses handed to them in rugby, too. :hihi:

 

LSU lost in pool play and weren't eligible for the championship. They won the Challenger Division or something like that.

 

It is a club sport. No schollys for rugby players.

 

Heck yeah, we have a rugby team!
