Probably because the voters went to Tigerfan.com for our take on the tigers after the Auburn and MS games.
I agree, 8 is the right number, but with conference champions winning the right to make the playoff, rather than a subjective committee deciding who's in. If a 2 loss team has gelled and is whooping butt, and can beat a zero loss team in the playoff, then they deserve it. Right now, that 2 loss team doesn't make it b/c someone thinks they aren't good enough, and the record or ranking isn't sexy enough. The current playoff format is better than not having one, but it needs to be redesigned. I am sure the goal was just to establish a playoff format and get past the paralysis of polls deciding champions.
