I may be 1 off on the stats but I believe its: 23 trips, 19 TDs, 3 FGs We had the one dropped pass in the enzone vs WVU that ended up in a missed FG, otherwise 23 for 23 in the redzone with 20 TDs if Randle catches that ball. The national average is 63 percent touchdowns. LSU is at a whopping 83 percent.
You are correct with those numbers. That's why, although I vehemently disagree with the booing of JJ yesterday, I can't get on board with the thought that we needed to improve the red zone offense...lol.
When you compare these stats to the last 2 years you'll see that they're GREATLY improved. Heck atm we're even better than our '07 NC run. Our redzone offense is just about as good as you could get.
Out of curiosity, what was our red zone offense the past 2 seasons with JJ?? There are a lot of his supporters that are insisting his attributes improve us in that area.
Found the answer to my own question: With JJ and his "run-threat ability" our offense under JJ was: (27-51) 53% last year and only (24-40) 60% in '09 And for ALL the clammoring for JJ to be the Red zone QB, and dispite ALL those INT's, in '08, under Lee, we had (35-47) 74% touchdown rate. So, all those in favor of JJ under center in the red zone, please, PLEASE offer another reason other than because JJ's running ability gives us more a chance to score. :dis:
Coach's Informed Decision. Coach Miles knows it's a tough call. IMHO this decision is not based on the stats or numbers relative to LSU Offense in the Red Zone. The team loves JJ. He's one of their own. I believe that this is the reason why we saw him in action vs KY and why we'll see him again. If JJ were benched forever, with the exception of a few plays to burn his redshirt, the players on the team would be unhappy and demoralized with that decision. Coach Miles knows the pulse of his team. He knows his players. He won't implement any decision that would tend to upset the overall team chemistry and morale. I've been in charge of some modestly sized teams myself in my time, and, my humble opinion is guided by my own personal experiences.
You don't think the players ALSO view Lee as "one of their own" and aren't also fully behind him--seeing first hand his play that has directly been related to improved passing offense thru the first 5 games of the season??
I don't think for a moment that the team couldn't have scored without JJ inserted into the game. But, it was a statement to the team, JJ, the fans and the remaining teams we play that JJ is back, he is not just on the team, he is part of the team and Les will not be shy about using him when he feels the need. As far as fans booing, that was not pretty and was out of line. As far as the starting QB - it is still JL's position.
Yes, the players are fully behind Lee. However, right now, the players view JJ as the down-trodden underdog who needs a lift. As such, the players wanted to see JJ get back on the field ASAP. Also, the players REALLY appreciate Coach Miles's loyalty to JJ. When the Crew knows that the Captain "has their back" and will give them a second chance, that breeds a great deal of comradeship and loyalty right back to the Captain.
