You are only bringing up the big guys at night. UAB, Middle Tennessee, Akron, etc. On average, night games are weaker because they are typically the non TV games. Can't really argue that.
Not going to argue that our weaker teams are played at night. But anyone who claims that's THE reason for having a better record at night is fooling themselves. The big night games have completely different atmosphere than the day games, and the team feeds off of it.
No doubt about it. It's two different issues. Just like you wont get the type of atmosphere for LSU vs. North Texas at night as you will for LSU vs. Auburn at night.
Correct. But what I'm saying is that you won't get the same crowd for LSU/Auburn in the day as you will LSU/Auburn at night.
Conference home games since '02 (too lazy for OOC) '02 Day Mississippi State (3-9) '02 Night So. Carolina (5-7) Bama (10-3) Ole Miss (7-6) Tougher games = Night Games '03 Day UGA (11-3) Florida (8-5) Arky (9-4) '03 Night Auburn (8-5) Tougher games = Day games '04 Day Miss St (3-8) '04 Night Vandy (5-6) Bama (6-6) Ole Miss (4-7) Tougher games = night (dam our home schedule sucks in even years) '05 Day Florida (9-3) Arky (4-7) '05 Night Auburn (9-3) Tennessee (5-6) Tougher games = Pretty much a push '06 Day Miss. St. (3-9) '06 Night Kentucky (8-5) Bama (6-7) Ole Miss (4-8) Tougher games = Night '07 Day So Carolina (6-6) Arky (8-5) '07 Night Florida (9-4) Auburn (9-4) Tougher games = Night In conference, it looks like night games have been the tougher Conference foes 5 of the last 7 seasons (IMO).
i claim that the stat is misleading. the home, night advantage is not as big as it seems. id like to see the breakdown to see how far down the advantage comes. gotta go back more than 10yrs to get enough #s id think. plus with so few losses the last several years its tough to parse.
Starting with the '97 season. In conference games. (can't find start times farther back than this) 20 games had a 5pm or sooner start time Opponents cummulative record 133-109 (.550) LSU record in these games 13-7 (.650) 24 Games started 6pm or later Opponents cummulative record 171-120 (.588) LSU record in these games 17-7 (.708) Better record vs. better opponents at night vs during the day.
