Which may have been good enough for 2 more wins last year. No matter what, we are coming into this season with 2 quarterbacks that have appreciable SEC game experience. Not just mop-up duty. They were competing with games on the line. We had 0 last year.
I'd heard this too, but I could never find out if it was anything more than a rumor. It's not like you're going to see an article in the Advocate or T-P singling out individual players or quoting players/coaches saying "Oh yeah, this guy quit on us."
Yeah, I'm just going by what I saw. He short armed that one right in his hands in the Troy game, and just didn't seem to be playing hard. I saw the DB coach eating his azz for not blocking, too.
Took the words right out of my mouth. Every time one of these spectacular Big XII QB's faces a legitimate passrush, they shiit in their pants. Tx Tech and OU both got victimized in their bowls, and Texas had a nailbiter vs Ohio freaking State for crying out loud! The 7-on-7 drills that they are so fond of in HS don't do the trick when it comes to prepping them for a real pass rush. He also once told red that he had forgotten more about football than red has ever known. Ludicrous. The cat obviously doesn't know how to handle himself. But he's a great fit for Droppings.
Byrd shut down before Bama. Was more like around Georgia. He was frustrated with QB play and gave up on J-Lee. Curtis Taylor quit -- literally after Bama. Didn't really start or play much the rest of the year. EDIT: and before someone says that there's no way of knowing if a guy is going full-go, both players have said as much in their combine interviews.
i wonder if its better for them to let the nfl think they suck. or let them know they quit? probably the latter.
I'm sure I'm gonna get flamed for this but I don't care. Let me say from the outset that I respect the contributions these guys made to the team, particularly D. Byrd. And their frustrations with QB play and coaching is understandable. But if I'm a coach and this is how these players respond to a difficult situation, then I don't need you here. If you're not returning another year to play all out for the team, then you should've declared for the draft or let it be known from the outset so someone else can step into a starting role. As it is you're further demoralizing a shaky QB, taking away PT from players who are here to give it everything they've got, and setting a bad example for younger players. We need players who are going to leave it all on the field and if you're not gonna do that, you can take a place on the sideline while you're replaced by someone who will. That said, my heart still goes out to D. Byrd and his family for everything he's having to go through right now. I'm praying for a complete recovery and wish both him and Curtis the best of luck in their careers.
Last year we had young unprepared talent, this year we have what we were wanting when Lee and Jefferson were recruited, plus additional depth with Garrett and Shephard. Last year was a nitemare, this year will be sweat dreams.
