The little I saw of his throwing in the spring game, one could not prove you wrong, he's got great looking mechanics, and he was on the money. I don't think he's as mobile as Flynn was, nor JJ. I hope he runs as well as JaMarcus did, but no proof of that. If we don't have any serious injury this year at QB, I'd like to see Garrett RS. I'd like to see Lee come back with a successful season, and I think he can.
:dis: Very short sighted to think a guy can't get better. All of his issues can be fixed by coaching. That can only be GOOD FOR . :thumb:
I would be very surprised if ANY coach would bring a cold QB in to run a 2-minute drill, which (if I read it correctly) is what was hinted at above by AttackTiger. More likely, JJ will start until the coaches think he hasn't performed as well as they need him to and JL could do better. And there's no way to know if/when that would happen because JL is great in practice (by some accounts better than JJ in terms of accuracy and timing during the drills), or so we're told/see on limited film review. So it'll take a couple of SEC game situations to sort this out. My prediction? Unless JJ gets hurt, JL will continue to play understudy and take whatever late game PT he can get. I also predict that, when/if given the chance, JL will play like the QB he has become, not the QB he was last year. Too many folks are ignoring the growth, maturity and hard work that has happened since late last year and over the offseason when it comes to JL. Everyone is counting on JJ getting better, Shep getting better, etc. Yet many of these same folks seem to think that JL has culminated as a QB. Not sure what motivates that point of view.
really? its fear of INTs for TDs and losses. if JL is better than JJ in practice, then he deserves another real shot. alternate series against UW. i think its foolish to only consider him a stop gap qb.
well, then JJ shouldn't play for fear of a sub-50% completion rate. And T Holliday shouldn't field punts for fear of fumbling. And K Williams shouldn't play for fear of not running hard. Etc. Etc. Some folks just need someone to blame. IMO. Meh. The term "gamer" has two uses. JL may not be a gamer. We won't know from practice. I think JJ starts until it's obvious he's not getting it done. Then JL gets a shot at proving himself. Difference between me and the haters (I'm looking at you, fishy ) is I'm almost certain JL would kick ass given the shot. He'll be lucky now to get that shot because I think JJ is probably going to continue to improve as well.
I know (or at least assume) you're joking...but actually, if that IS the only difference...then there is NO difference between you and me. I'm sure JL would be improved...but I'm also sure JJ is going to be the starter...and I'm confident he will perform well enough to keep the job all year. - I've tried to say it before...but I'll try again. I don't think JJ is a better passer than JL. In fact, I think JL is probably a better passer than JJ. But JJ's greatest attribute seems to be confidence. He is a very composed kid from what we've seen...and has a quiet leadership about him. That to me is what seperates the two. Well, that and the lack of pick 6s.:hihi: - Seriously...I don't doubt JLs ability, heart, or desire. My bone of contention was that people were saying he's going to have a big year...surprise all of us...and that ain't gonna happen from the bench. He may have a good year by 2nd string standards...but some were implying he was gonna take over. If that happens...it won't be good for LSU as a team...because it will mean JJ failed miserably...and if that happens...the season will be lost before it can be fixed.
I was joking of course. I think most of us are on the same page. I just couldn't resist stirring the pot a bit.
"It’s conceivable Jefferson and Lee will share time to some degree, with Shepard on call as a change-of-pace option similar to the wild hog/rebel look Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt has employed the last few seasons. Jefferson is the likely starter because of the way he ended last season and because he gives Crowton and Miles a dual-threat quarterback their offense thrives with. But Lee will get some snaps and he could be summoned from the bullpen when LSU needs to throw the ball exclusively — 2-minute situations or when the Tigers are playing from behind." 2theadvocate.com | Sports | Older and wiser — Baton Rouge, LA
As I said, I'd be VERY surprised if Les Miles did that. I disagree with Rosetta on that theory. But it doesn't mean it won't happen. I can't WAIT to find out!!!!! GEAUX TIGERS!
I'm with ya! I was just showing you that I didn't just conjure that out of thin-air! I can kinda see it if JJ is having trouble connecting when the opposition is committing to the pass when we don't have time to force it down their throats...considering Lee is supposedly throwing much better than JJ. It doesn't matter to me...whatever it takes to HANG BANNERS! :geaux:
