The Curley Hallman and later Archer eras were extremely painful. I would argue that last year's team did not play like LES MILES' teams. Before '08, all of Miles' teams could be characterized by a never-say-die, never give up attitude. That was totally lacking from the get-go last year. We saw flashes of it at AU, but after the Florida debacle, that was all she wrote. I would put a lot of the "quitting" attitude on seniors who are no longer with our team. I feel like guys like Lafell, Scott, and Black, who all came back for their senior years, will provide that missing leadership that is so important on good teams. As for QB, I feel that we're lucky that Jarrett Lee has so much real game experience. And, of course, many of his pick sixes should NOT have been returned for TD's--another example of the team quitting at some point (I think especially after the UGA game as far as the pick sixes go.) Then, there is Jordan Jefferson. He also has valuable big game experience. Jordan Jefferson assumes a calm leadership when he's on the field. As he matures this year, I think it will become more apparent. But he reminds me of a more physically gifted Herb Tyler, who had an uncanny calmness about him as a freshman. In short, I feel MUCH better about our QB situation than I did this time last year, when I was hoping that it wouldn't be as bad as it ended up. But deep down inside, I knew that it would be.
I'm starting to get that same ease of mind feeling that I had when we had Russell and Flynn. I think all will be ok in Tiger Country. I'm excited to get to watch either of our good QB's drive this offense up and down the field.
Sounds like a quality kid. Said it once and I'll say it again, he's a fighter and you have to respect that. Hopefully the coaches will let him see some meaningful playing time leading up to SEC play to show what he can do. Edit: Just realized we got Vandy in Week 2, I really am getting old yall.
Could not agree with this more. Jefferson exhibited a rare sense of command for someone so young when on the field last year. And it was obvious that his air of confidence had an impact on the rest of the offense. That said, I think that the way the QB situation worked out last year could end up being the perfect set up for this year. Jefferson got real game experience, including on the road in the SEC and in a bowl game. He seized the opportunity to provide much-needed leadership at his position, and to cement himself as the guy heading into 2009. And if Lee has, in fact, made great strides and learned from the frequent mistakes from 2008, then we are in great shape should something happen to Jefferson. He could contribute significantly in either circumstance.
:geaux: My feelings exactly. The fact that's he's still at LSU after what he experienced last year indicates to me that he's a class act and the type of person you'd like to have on your team. :LSU231:
Absolutely.. I think he will continue to be here for his team should they need him and I still think last year was just a perfect storm for (against) him. I'm glad they brought light to this little fact... He's not a QB with no talent that just can't do better. He's a QB with lots of talent that just had a terrible run.
Sounds like Lee is still competing... Moving the chains In the quarterback-receiver drills the media observed Saturday morning, Jarrett Lee was sharp, while projected starter Jordan Jefferson struggled to connect. Jefferson struggled most with short down-and-out routes, often zinging the ball over his targets’ heads. 2theadvocate.com | Featured LSU Stories | Alem, Jones seek to shed weight — Baton Rouge, LA
