for 300+ yardage, against what many have touted as one of the top DB groups in the country. LSU fans have been calling their QB's "Non SEC Caliber". But the main topic seem to be about whether or not JR. WR Russell Shepard throws a pass, or is involved in the return game?
But it's really hard to tell when playing against yourself. Just like in the spring when the offense struggled.
It should also be noted that this was 100 plays, and LSU QBs were on the field the entire time. It isn't like a game where the offense is only on the field when LSU has the ball. These stats are not representative of what you'll see in a game from the LSU offense, or the defense. Think people, think. The LSU offense didn't throw for 300 and rush for 200 today. They basically threw for 150 and rushed for 100. So did the other LSU offense. I'd say the defense won the day with those stats...
Based on....... Unless you were at the scrimmage and have some inside info the rest of us aren't privvy to, I cannot possibly see ANY reason to be concerned about this secondary. You ARE correct that Jenkins looks incredible. In fact, I think he'd start on 90% of D1 teams right now...as a freshman. However, he won't start, and likely won't play much (not in the secondary anyway) for LSU this season. Reason? See my sig...
As has been said many times before, these scrimmages are basically rehearsed practices. It's not a game-type scenario; not even as much as the spring game was. They work on certain situations in most cases (like redzone, two minute offense, etc).. There are a few long drives sometimes, but it's not at all like a game. As far as being concerned, I wouldn't. When the offense does well, everyone thinks "oh no, is the defense having problems??"... and when the defense has a good day, it's the other way around. Intuitively, I would feel pretty good about it, knowing how our defense generally plays. But, I would be more interested in what was said about how the players themselves looked, individually. Did they know their routes, or where they were supposed to be? Did they look comfortable in their positions, etc...
Exactly. My understanding is that in the first part of the scrimmage, the offense was a no huddle quick pace offense, designed to get used to the up tempo pace we'll see on Sept 3. That said, I also heard JJ looked better when they went to our normal offense.
Same here, and in the few videos I've seen of him working out, his mechanics looked better. I'm trying to reserve judgement until I see him in a game though. It'll be difficult for him to overcome the urge to resort back to what he's been doing all this time when he's under center. Old habits die hard and what not. If he has improved like everyone's saying, look out! Hell, even if it's just a little bit better than last year that could mean all the difference in the world. Can't wait to see one way or the other. As always (to me), August is the longest month of the year by far. :thumb:
This is the problem with starting the season against a top 10 opponent. If LSU played a **** team in their first game we could get a chance to see how JJ and Lee look in a real game situation after another year of maturation. I really still don't see how anyone could say that LSU was better of last year with JJ than with Lee. If its because of JJ's running ability, he better learn to run the option better.
Considering how long they've been her that's kinda asking a lot, don't you think? Further, we know how JJ CAN look it's a matter of will he be consistent. I am so glad we have fewer UL's on our schedule. There's a reason the stadium is empty for those games. If the local high school team played the feeder 8th grade program who in their right mind would want to see that?
