QB Game comp att int TD yds % Mauck @ VT, 9/1/02 15/35/1/0/134/43 Randall @ AUB, 10/26/02 9/20/4/0/79/45 Russell @ UF, 10/09/04 6/10/2/0/56/60 Flynn MIA, 12/30/05 13/22/0/0/196/59 Lee MSU, 9/27/08 18/27/1/2/261/67 Couple of points to note here: Clearly Jarrett Lee has had the best first start of any LSU QB this decade. He had 2 passing touchdowns along with nearly a 70 percent completion rating. I don't think this kid gets nearly enough credit for what he has accomplished as a young redshirt freshman. Each QB got their first meaningful playing time in a game prior to their first start (with the possible exception of Randall, I do not know if he played in the UF game where Mauck got hurt, and if so, it was probably handoffs). Mauck, Randall, and Russell had their first starts all on the road in very hostile environments. I'm sure if NS had it to do over again, he'd start Randall at UF. Flynn's first start was in the Peach Bowl, but he had significant playing time during the SEC Championship game due to JR's shoulder injury. Lee had the benefit of playing poorly against Auburn, getting pulled, and then having to come back in due to an injury. His first start was also in the friendly confines of TS.
Randall's 1st start was home vs So. Carolina 12/23, 183 yds, 0 TDs, 0 picks (doesn't change the point of the thread, just a friendly correction)
Clearly, Jarrett Lee's best days are ahead of him. He needs to continue the process of developing as a starting QB in the SEC. One thing he needs to work in, IMHO, is not staring down his first option. J-Lee will be a good QB when all is said and done. On his one int I don't know if he threw the ball too soon or if Dickson didn't look soon enough. Had Dickson been looking, it may not have been a completion but it wouldn't have been and interception.
