Quinn Johnson had the worst bench numbers of any FB at last years combine and was in the bottom 25% for all players that lifted at every position. He only did 16. Are you sure he was one of our workout warriors? I agree with this. NFL scouts love the speed drills. They get all giddy over fast cone drills and 40 times especially for skill players and linebackers. However, they do look at the bench numbers for lineman more than any other position. It is a sign of raw strength and and it is something they consider. For whatever reason our big guys have had low numbers for the last several years. I dont know if this has anything to do with our guys looking gassed at the end of games or not but when you see this pattern it makes you wonder.
I completely agree. We seemed to have no stamina at all. Almost every game, we looked out of shape and winded. Several people said it on here all season.
I did not look up his bench numbers but he was one of the strongest for his size and a machine on numerous phases of the workout plan. I heard he was a mat rat (Clean and Jerk, Snatch, dead lifts, squats, etc...) Probably the most important part of the workout plan. The results in his performance since his Junior year are hard to argue. I would rather see his max number progression than how many times he can press 225 but that still wouldn't mean much. The correlation between 225 reps and end of game endurance doesn't really amount to much IMO.
I am not going to disagree with you, as I have said I just really don't know. I am going to have to accept your opinion on this one with an open eye of caution. One of the things I would like to see is our guys not running out of gas in the 4th qtr. If this doesn't play a role in that, whatever does needs to be fixed.
