This might resonate had Collins actually been guilty of something other than being a first class young man. As it stands it's hollow
Ok, it was a number of things that added to this, first wanted in questioning by police. Then not drafted early. His agent comes out and said, if he didn't get picked high, he wouldn't sign. If he got picked in the 7th, he would have to go with that team, money is slotted. Now he can pick any team. The Saints could use him at Left Guard now. Most teams couldn't get a ton of info. The Saints coach Payton said they couldn't get much info and that they were less than 100 miles away. So other teams had less info.
I don't think they have been proactive and they damn sure handled the Ray Rice thing terribly, but as far as reactionary, they have definitely done that. Look at all the PSA's now and the commercials about domestic abuse. But, when you are reactionary it makes it look like you are only succumbing to pressure and had their been no pressure it would have been business as usual.
The good thing for La'El is not only will he be able to basically choose his own team, he can get his millions faster than the draftees who can't restructure until 3 years in. La'El if he performs can after 2, plus picking your own team is quite an incentive.
He would already be millions ahead if he was a first round pick. He would have at least a few million in guaranteed money. As a free agent signee if he gets injured there will be no millions.
I also just read about this WNBA player who bit her fiancé and beat the hell out of her. Her fiancé is also in the WNBA. I know no one watches the WNBA but apparently some people I guess all 4 fans of the sport are upset because the league has done nothing about it.
Only because you are looking at the individual as opposed to how the NFL operates. It's about money and protecting an image. As this forum likes to say, Collins may have been the escape goat. Hollow has nothing to do with it. Posters, pink socks, commercials... do NOT equal reactionary. Those commercials are about the brand and selling merchandise. If the NFL was serious, they would give really hurtful suspensions and fines. But when Rice gets 2 games and another player gets a whole season for violating the drug policy, the NFL is not reacting. What I'm suggesting is that Goodell and the other idiots may have decided to use Collins to try and make a point.
Is their endemic violence in the WNBA? That's the difference other than the relative obscurity of the league. I also take the USOC to task for looking the other way as Hope Solo drinks and beats the shit out of her NFL husband on her way to the next Olympic games.
