His salary will be the NFL minimum as well. He got screwed out of a ton of money. The only good thing is that he will get to renegotiate as a free agent 2 years earlier than the draftees.
Apparently what ruined Collin's draft was a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter 2 days before the draft suggesting that Collins had to return to BR to "clear his name", when all they wanted to do was interview him as a witness and determine if he was the father of the child. He should get a job with The Inquirer.
It would be justified but unlikely to get to court. La'el is a public figure and they'd have to prove malice not just being a stupid asshat reporter.
So did the cowardice of the NFL teams. Not one team gave any consideration that he was an Eagle Scout with no criminal record, but they gave a tweet from this ESPN reporter some kind of credibility.
See, and that is another thing I don't get. I'm not discounting the Eagle scout deal but as connected as the coaching community is I can't believe no calls were made. I would have thought good Ole Les and a host of others would have been in front of this saying "there is no way he is involved in this" I could see if there was a history of problems but this guy was a Sr that had no issues noted to date. I doubt you take the leap all the way to murder 1.
It would have been someone who broke the news. You want to blame someone? Then get after all the NFL sycophants who have made pro athletes far wealthier than they deserve and much bigger "heroes" than they should be. Watch this effing circus and you wonder why news like this got out? The entire process is like TMZ. Put that on ESPiN and the NFL and the fans.
How many teams passed on Michael Sam because he was a distraction (gay)? Schefter isn't under the guise of credibility but he did tweet facts. What he ended up tweeting which was wrong was a prediction that La'el would be able to enter the draft next year. From what I can tell this was the original tweet..."NFL rejected La'el Collins' request to be removed from draft until police complete murder investigation, per source. No supp draft for him". Sounds like the NFL already knew. Is it possible that Collins' request is what started the ball rolling?
