They shouldn't but like Shane said, most detectives are looking to get the case wrapped in the first 48 hours. So now Collins gets 4 or 5 days to come talk to them? Everything about this seems off to me.
48 hours? Are they or is that what we see on TV? I really don't know and I only know one murder detective for the LAPD and I can't get a response from him. I tend to think that so many factors playing into this may make it seem "off". Maybe it is or maybe it's just all bad timing and a few poor decisions all the way around. I did read this.... "If he’s not drafted [at all]? He would be the same as any other player in this draft," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told The MMQB's Robert Klemko. "He becomes a free agent like any other undrafted player. You only go through one draft. If he’s drafted and sits out the year, he would go back into the 2016 draft." Collins's agents may fight that stance, perhaps even attempting to enlist the NFLPA for help in doing so. There is no specific language in the CBA barring Collins from participating in the 2016 draft, as there was blocking him from supplemental-draft status. " I have to think that if he ends up being cleared that the league would agree to some kind of exception. After looking it up, Baton Rouge is the 30th ranked murder capitol in the US. I'm guessing they are busy....and with a murder less than 7 days old and a lot of people to interview, it might be a bit much to think they can absolutely eliminate him as a suspect in 48 hours. http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/top-lists/highest-murder-rate-cities/
Because he went from being a lock 1st round draft pick, possibly the first lineman taken, to being undrafted. The NFL vets their players unlike any other professional organization, so for no one to have picked him, even in the later rounds when he would have been a bargain, seems to indicate that they know something that the public doesn't.
Correct. If he's not a suspect, then why leak his name at all? Why not talk to him quietly to see what info he could provide? If he did eventually become a suspect, it's not like he would disappear without a trace.
Leak? In this day and time, you don't need a leak. Once it's an LSU player, for whatever, his name is out there. Ok, once it's a college player...
'i posted this today. “ Per the league office, there’s only one way to re-enter the draft. A player must be drafted and the sit out the year without signing a contract. If Collins isn’t drafted today, Collins becomes a free agent until he signs a contract. Which means that his situation will be no different in 2015 or 2016, if he’s not drafted. He’ll be an undrafted free agent, subject to the rookie pool, which limits the compensation teams can provide to undrafted free agents. So the goal, we’re told, for Collins remains to be drafted, to sit out the year, and then to re-enter the draft. But unless there’s a team willing to throw away a pick (possibly in exchange for some sort of a wink-nod, back-scratching arrangement), he’s not getting drafted this year. murder has its consequences.
