All three successful fake punts by Jasper. Two of which happened when everyone in the stadium was expecting it.
Maybe, but I thought the difference in that game was having the ball inside their 10 twice and only coming away with 6 pts. Say what you want about Lee (and most would probably be deserved), but he did have 3 season altering plays this year - the 4th and 13 completion to Tolliver in the Tenn game that set up the bizarre ending, the TD pass to him against FU, and the 3rd down completion to Randle. Without any one of those plays and there's no 10 win season.
I agree...but to be fair, the same could be said of a few dozen plays this year. With as many close games as we had, any one thing...a third-and-one bull run by Ridley; a stretch over the plane of the end zone on third-and-goal; a short completion in bounds to help move the chains and run some clock; a punt being downed inside the five...every small play counts.
I'm with you, but wanted to point out that Lee had 3 such notable plays. Ridley definitely had his share as did others.
This was definitely a season of inches. More than I can remember in the past. As you mention, those are great examples, and you can isolate down to 4 plays/series of plays that stopped us from being undefeated AU game: Execute these 2 plays and we win the game. Randall inside the 20 tips the ball into an AU defenders hands - could have been a TD and was a very catch-able ball, although a little bit behind him. TT - streaking down the field, almost perfect throw by JJ, hits TT in the hands and he drops that ball. Had enough lead on defender had he caught the ball he would have gone the rest of the way for a TD. Ark game - turn these series into better production and we win the game. Twice we got the ball inside the 15, the D did a great job of getting us this field position due to turnovers. On both occasions the offense couldn't move the ball at all and had to settle for FG's. If the O was worth a crap and could have actually moved the ball those series could have and should have been TD's instead. Wouldn't have won the game, but would have at least made it a tie and sent it into OT. Of course there were games that went the other way, and only inches did we win, but these are just some more examples of how close many of the games were this season.
