What I take away from any stupid act committed by a player, is the results. The punishment. Kids will be kids, and as sad as it is, some of them make stupid mistakes, but its how the coaches handle the mistakes that make the difference to the mature audience.

As an Oregon fan you are going to back your players, you want to win, its "Football First" - A lot of fan bases are like that, Some LSU fans included

But what most fans do not realize, is how it affects the future of recruiting from the parent and highschool coaches point of view.

As a father, and as much as I LOVE LSU, if Chip Kelly were the coach of LSU and pulled some shady sh!t like this, id have to re-think long and hard where my boy plays ball.

Cheating goes on everywhere. The SEC gets looked at through a microscope while the rest of the country simply gets glances from time to time. If they (NCAA) would sniff around these other schools as much as they have the SEC we more than likely would find out these other schools have been doing the same things for the same periods of time. Cheating isn't and hasn't been limited to one conference. Its just they've not been put under the spotlight like the SEC.

Hell, the AD at Miami at the time all the things were going down was the chairman of the Rules Infractions Committee for the NCAA!

Here's a quote from a recent article regarding Dee, and his involvement at Miami as the AD (2002-2008)

"Despite being thousands of miles away, the NCAA investigation of Miami hasn't gone unnoticed by Southern California and Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott.

Their interest is focused on comments made by former Miami athletics director Paul Dee, who was chairman of the NCAA's infractions committee when it levied penalties against USC in 2010.At the time the NCAA was hitting USC with a two-year postseason ban and a reduction of 30 scholarships, Dee criticized the Trojans for not being aware of violations being committed by Reggie Bush and his family.
"The real issue here is if you have high‑profile players, your enforcement staff has to monitor those students at a higher level," Dee said in June 2010 when the decision was handed down. "It's extraordinarily important that the people that are likely to be receiving these kinds of interactions from people outside the institution are also those same people who are going to provide a reward somewhere down the road. So high‑profile players demand high‑profile compliance."
If the allegations by former booster Nevin Shapiro are true then Miami was guilty of failing to oversee its program during an eight-year period that included six years when Dee was athletics director between 2002 and 2008.
Dee's tenure at Miami started in 1993 and included the Hurricanes being hit with sanctions in 1995 after players were found guilty of Pell Grant fraud."

Wow, I had no idea. He certainly looks like a member of the fat cat club. I wonder what kind of penalties Miami is going to get clobbered with?

i think its much more prevalent in the sec because the stakes are much higher and its more competitive top to bottom on a yearly basis.

if anything Id say bama and traditional schools get overlooked instead of being made examples when sometimes deserved. even though those schools would say otherwise.

the smu's and boise's get pushed around because the ncaa is a leviathan of hypocrisy and care only about power and money. Not so much student-athletes-- despite their facade.

Or as Jerry Tarkanian famously said "The NCAA was so mad at Kentucky it gave Cleveland State two more years of probation."

"Perrilloux actually did something. Thomas has not (Yes, Oregon has drug testing). That's why Duck fans are supporting him."

    You really believe that ???
That DT was just sitting in the back reading scripture and discussing the evils of breaking the law?

Sorry I doubt this is the first time these players smoked weed. "Hey I guys I found some marijuana cigarettes you guys want to try them out"
"oh gee whiz guys. This marijuana cigarette has caused all my senses to speed up, and I appear to be speeding now. Gee whiz.... DT, I am sorry know this really bothers you let me slow down and I will stop this behavior, please get back to your studies..."

    Please.....

I have no issue with it. Smoke weed I got no problem with that. I hope DT does play.
But if you think DT is some boy scout who JUST happens to get caught wrong place wrong time you are kidding yourself. Its fine but to even suggest that DT is some innocent bystander (Again) is just foolish...
