But that isn't because of Oklahoma St's lack of recent success. It's because of it's lack of success ever & thus being stepchild in it's own state. You think that it will only be completely due to Miles in a few years once he's shown that he can win, right? Well I think that it is because the recruits believe that Miles will win with them. That won't change in a few years - it will still be the reason they come here, because they believe they can win under him. The difference is that he will have proven it by then.
i'm simply taking an extreme view when I didn't intend to but decided to run with it. Yes I agree with your above statement. I was simply saying we won't know the direct impact of Miles and his recruiting abilities for a year or 2 down the road. That goes for any coach following a successful coach and I was merely pointing that out. I guess it hinges on how big of a winner he turns out to be. not for me. Probably 2 years max.
Fact of the matter is.. if you are an SEC school that is on national tv for every televised game, you are going to pick up recruits... if you are blacked out half the time and the other half on JP, then you arent going to get the recruits...
Miles was an effective recruiter at OSU. He had his team at or near the top 25 in recruiting rankings despite being in the same state as Oklahoma, even though Oklahoma isn't that good for HS talent anyway. Every recruit that has commited thus far has said how much they like the staff and Miles is making much more of an attempt to pick talent out of Texas than Saban did. He also is recruiting the midwest, something that Saban would never touch. Miles is going to have a top 10 class ever year while he is here. In part because Louisiana is talent-rich and we're the only in-state player for the top recruits and also because Miles is an excellent recruiter. You can't really rip the guy for his recruiting ability, no matter how much you want to.
