Sets up perfectly doesn't it. :geaux: They'd better since from the get-go our conference dominates the Top 10 in recruiting classes, annually. The National Titles, especially during the BCS era, there's the SEC then all the rest. Exactly. Preseason polls have to be taken with a grain of salt and don't necessarily give TRUE SOS imo. It does say something when coaches respect any team and put them in top 25; moreso, top 10; however, it's where your opponents end up that matters. Few examples using SEC teams. 2008 LSU #6 ended up out of top 25. Alabama finished 6th but wasn't in the preseason top 25 Ole Miss ended up 15th but weren't ranked preseason either. 2009 Georgia was 13th, preseason and fell out of top 25 Last year Auburn started out at 23rd. I wonder what's the lowest ranked a team has ever started that low and end up winning it all.
Notre Dame has recruited well over the past five years. And, it's a safe assumption to say Brian Kelly is a good football coach. Given the lower than average parameter for ND to qualify for a BCS bowl, it wouldn't come as a shock to see them there. Probably four games on their schedule that are toss-ups...9-3 would likely have them in a BCS game.
For SEC teams in general it's quite normal. Florida has six ranked teams they are facing, Bama as well along with Arkansas. Auburn is facing seven.
Based on these past results the only things a preseason poll tells me is who is not going to finish number 1.....and LSU is going to play the #3 ranked team on Sept 3.
Right and most of the time it doesn't tell you who is 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9..............................................., either.
You would be better off putting your money on any team 2-20 to finish 1st. Maybe the pressure of going start to finish as #1 is too much. I wonder if the preseason poll dooms the #1 before the season begins?
