This is a very valid position. LSU out-talented lots of other teams this season. The games that we didn't out talent the other team, we lost because we were either out-coached, or because our coached enabled us to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
But look at the product compared to past results. Do you think Tebow will be a huge contributor the NFL? He was a beast at this level, but the NFL really measures more than certain geared offenses/defenses. But don't get me wrong, I completely understand where you're going with that statement, just that there is more perspective out there.
I prefaced my comment trying to address what you are saying. I didn't want to open up that can of worms. Coaching up players talent and coaching a team to play as a machine are two different things. It shows the ability to coach up individual talent, but opens up the arguement of not coaching them to play as a well oiled machine, which is a bigger problem.
The combine invites, which indicate the players with best chance to get drafted, are invited for a reason. 1) Brandon LaFell: Best nfl potiential, could be a first round pick, crisp routes and great blocking 2) Rahim Alem: Speed rusher, could be viewed as a 3-4 linebacker or 4-3 situational rush 3) Charles Alexander: Injury questions, when he is on his game he's decent. 4) Ciron Black 2-3 round will be moved to RT to become more of a mauler, has the size and strength needed, needs better work on footwork and technique. 5) Harry Coleman S/LB Tweener: A creative coach could get the best out of him, can dilver big hits and is good in coverage. 6) Chris Hawkins: Don't really see him making much of an impact. Picked on all year doesn't have the speed or coverage ability to really contribute in the NFL 7) Trindon Holliday: Owners Like Al Davis loves speed, Trindon should be the fastest player at the combine, will become a return man. 8) Perry Riley: Good size and strength if coached right could become a really good MLB, good coverage skill and speed. 9) Charles Scott: Was it O line or something else? Late round prospect who could become a goal line horse. 10) Kieland Williams: Not really sure how he'll do in the NFL good catching ability out of the backfield will get him drafted. probably 7th round 11) Al Woods: Big and strong, was unproductive but could become a 3-4 NT. If he can really start producing, could land a gig, watch for the chargers jets dolphins and patriots to keep an eye on him in later rounds. That's all folks
I think it was more of no players on the team this year taking the leadership role. I am sure we can name a few names, but there was no one figure out there on the field that held the team together. LSU needs that, every team needs that.
Hawkins never really got burned this season, he was always right there, he was just terrible at making plays on the ball, with the exception of that one amazing one handed int.
The only question I have on the combine is what time will Holiday and Spiller post in the 40, anyone think sub 4.20?
