Etling should be benched. Throwing those passes into receivers hands on critical 3rd downs... 2 that I can think of immediately. It's also his fault his line didn't do shit. But, this is LSU. Brennan knows he is the messiah, seeing as how he's #2 on the chart.
Read something on Dandy Don by Mike Detellier(sp) awhile back. He said something along the line that the problem on the O-line can be attributed to the way we (Miles) recruited. We recruited guards and converted some to tackles, instead of recruiting true tackles. Hence, we have been trying to compete against the Alabamas of the world with under sized tackles.
I saw the same thing and it makes sense. Just seems like it will take years to fix through recruiting.
If we had every lineman who flew the coop this offseason, the only one who would be starting is Maea whoever. Brown, Allen, Savage and Stephens were all 3-star recruits. Depth perhaps, but not potential starters. The staff really needs to hit the recruiting beat hard for linemen this year. Someone suggested the JUCO route, and while I agree that's not the way to go when building a program, it can keep the ship afloat if you find a couple who can step in right away while you develop the youngsters. We've got two true freshmen starting right now, and that's not a good recipe for a dominating line.
Hell, none of our veteran starters on the line impress me. Throw in Teuhema, for that matter. A member who shall be nameless was pumping sunshine about Miles' last 3 recruiting classes, and overall, they were very good. But the o-line recruiting has been suspect, and so far, the 2018 class for linemen is almost non-existent. But hey, we've got some more top DB's coming in.
