Interesting article from Fred Hickman linked below saying that if the Tigers win out he will consider them the "best ever" college team. Side note: Hickman was the single voter in 2000 to NOT vote Shaq league MVP, denying Shaq a unanimous selection. Hickman voted for Iverson. Is Hickman a New Orleans anchor now? He used to be one of the CNN sports anchors. Final Play: Fred Hickman's Final Word - New Orleans News, Breaking News, Sports & Weather - FOX 8 Live WVUE-TV Channel 8
Excerpt from the link below. A good read. [The Ugh: If Arkansas wins, the college football universe may fold in on itself. LSU, Arkansas and Alabama are all in the SEC West, where the Razorbacks have already lost to the Crimson Tide and LSU has beaten Alabama. An Arkansas win would mean each team is 1-1 against the other two and would send the SEC to the seventh tiebreaker to determine which team would go to the SEC title game. The seventh tiebreaker is the BCS standings. But the BCS standings are only supposed to be relevant at the completion of the season, before the bowl games. What happens in the SEC West, and with the SEC title game, will have a great overall effect on the final BCS standings. So the BCS standings would determine the champion of the SEC West, meaning that team would play an extra game, and that would then help determine the final BCS standings. Got it? How about this scenario? Arkansas beats LSU, which because of a greater strength of schedule, is still No. 1 in the BCS and declared the SEC West champ. LSU then goes on to lose the SEC title game, and the BCS standings then send Alabama and Arkansas to face off in the national title game, though the BCS standings the week before determined neither was good enough to even play for a conference title.] Upset weekend leaves BCS contenders rather nauseated: National College Football Insider | cleveland.com
Article below has some good stats on just how hard LSU's schedule is. BCS Rankings: Why the No. 1 LSU Tigers Are Underrated | Bleacher Report "LSU is good, very good even. In fact, should they go on and win their last three games, they would set a NCAA record for wins against ranked teams with nine. Now before you respond just stop and think about that number for a minute. When a team goes 9-0 against ranked opponents, there simply is no "Yeah, but..." In fact, the most regular season wins against ranked teams in the BCS era was five by the 2000 Oklahoma Sooners. LSU already has six this year. A win over Arkansas would give them seven. "
First of all, I tend to agree. Secondly, I like Hickman. Thirdly, we have to take it with a grain of salt. Hickman has had some personal and professional problems as of late and he is trying to ingratiate himself to the local fan base in a new TV market here in New Orleans. Having Vilma on his show is helpful. I wish Vilma would stick around to talk Tigers after the Saints segment is done.
