Friday 29 – 6 p.m. CT - Good Friday Saturday 30 – 1 p.m. CT - TELEVISED ON FSN Sunday 31 – 1 p.m. CT - Easter Sunday For the first time in LSU history, the Tigers make the 11 hour and 30 minute drive straight north to play in Mizzou's ballpark Although Mizzou is only hitting a very weak .250 at the plate as a team this season, Mizzou dominates on the mound. Over the last ten MLB drafts, Mizzou has had 21 pitchers taken (including three 1st Round picks since 2006), so you figure that's about 8 pitchers Mizzou has on their team each year that go on to get drafted This year appears to be no different as Mizzou's pitchers are holding opponent batters to a paltry .247 batting avg and are only allowing 3.3 runs per nine innings pitched (and only 2.6 runs per nine innings over the last 14 games, including 2.9 runs per nine innings in SEC play). In home games, Mizzou pitchers are only allowing 2.0 runs per nine innings this season. Notes from the Missouri team website: -in 21 games, the Mizzou starters own a 2.27 ERA and that mark is a miniscule 1.69 in the last 15 games. -Mizzou starters have allowed just two earned runs or less in 17 of 21 starts this season, with 7 shutouts in 21 starts -Mizzou's Weekend Starters have not allowed more than two ERs in 15 of 16 starts. -In SEC play, Mizzou starters have a 2.31 ERA in six total starts and have not allowed more than three ERs. -as a whole, Missouri pitchers have a 2.92 ERA in SEC play (which is #4 in the SEC)
A look at Mizzou's starting rotation: junior left-hander Rob Zastryzny of Texas (6 foot, 3 inches tall)...holding opponent batters to a .258 avg this season. He has thrown 10 Ks in two of his last three starts, including v South Carolina (his best was 12 K's last year v Oklahoma State). Last week v Tennessee, he held them to a .217 batting avg over 6 and 2/3 innings pitched. The week before that, he held South Carolina to a .241 batting avg over 7 innings pitched sophomore right-hander Brett Graves of St. Louis...drafted by the Cardinals out of high school, Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year, First Team Louisville Slugger All-American ...holding opponent batters to a .227 avg this season with a 2.64 ERA freshman right-hander Alec Rash of Iowa (6 foot, 6 inch tall). In the 2012 Draft, he was taken 2nd Round and was the highest-drafted high school player to elect to go to college instead of beginning a major league career. He leads Mizzou in ERA (0.53) and opponent batting average (.169) and averages 9.0 strikeouts per nine innings, second-best on the team.
